no sound

i have heard no sound from the game since i got it so i'd called that a bug... i could have sworn i'm supposed to be able to here my top of the line(hehe) ships fire and also the background music as i have seen gameplay footage

I have no idea. But that said, why do you need sound in space? That's one of the first things I turned off (after Music and Starbase Upgrade Confirmation). Then again, I play Wing Commander with my speakers off too, maybe I'm just weird like that.

i just want to hear what it sounds like and it seems kinda strange without sound, the main thing is that it should be working because sound when i'm not in that game, as far as i know, works just fine.

Post a debug.err file from your install location. Update your sound drivers.
