1.2 significant changes?

Is there any way I could find a list of 1.1/1.2 gameplay changes?

I've tried to read the current lists, I really have, but I just can't bear to read through thousands of lines of things like "Fixed a bug that caused the music to play too quietly" or "Fixed a typo on Torian diplomacy screen" or "Fixed issue with extremely rare video card nobody has"

I read the manual when I first got the game a few days ago, and took it as gospel, but now I keep hearing about combat changes and certain things not working like they say they do. Is any of this stuff documented somewhere?

I don't know why I can't get any paragraphs in my posts either. Anyone know what's up with these forums?

I just read through the full list of changes and ignored the generic bug fixes and such. As for the paragraphs, sometimes you have to input the html code for a new paragraph and sometimes you don't... And to make it even worse, paragraphing hasn't been working for me today no matter how I make my post.

I don't use it myself but there is a GalCiv2 wiki . I don't know if the users are keeping that documentation updated, but we know Stardock isn't, so at least there's a chance.

The big combat change is that ships now fire simultaneously each round, which removes the huge advantage that used to be held by attacking ships. Not sure if the sum of all changes is documented somewhere, but if you scroll backward through the news posts on the main page and the "Journals" section, there tend to be announcements of the major changes for each new version (1.1, 1.2) as previews of what's coming that are much more concise than the lists of everything they actually did.

The version change list postings are most easily found in the Developer's Journal section of the forum

The manual was wrong since day 1, ignore it. The biggest change is, as said, ships now fire at the same time. If a ship is defeated in combat, it will fire a shot from that turn. This was because all attack no defence ships were extremely powerful, and defences were a waste. With the new change, defences are required to survive.

So let me get this straight. In combat, if I attack with a Beam Weapon strength of 5, and the Opponent has a Beam Defense strength of two, I will roll a 1-5 and he will roll a 1-2 and the difference will be the damage he takes. Then, regardless of whether he lives through that or dies, he will attack me in the same fashion. Say he has a Driver attack of 2 and I have no defenses at all, he would roll a 1-2 and I would take damage equivalent to his roll. Is that about right? If so, wouldn't it still be better to focus on attack rather than defense?

Attack will still beat defense in the long run, but being the attacker (something the AI was not as good at as the human players) will not be as huge an advantage as it was before.

Well the reason I'm asking this is because I have no frame of reference for before. I bought the game just a few days ago and immediatley installed 1.2 so I don't know nay better!

For some reason the "Plain text" mode doesn't seem to recognize line breaks. (Pushing the enter key for a new line)

The only way you can get around that hassle free is to put (BR) wherever you would hit 'Enter', so use (BR)(BR) to go to the next line, then skip a line. However, use the '<' and '>' symbol instead of the '(' and ')'. I just used the parenthesis' since you can't see the "Carrots" if I used them back to back most likely.

Well that explains that. For a while I thought I added a tag somewhere that I wasn't supposed to. Too bad the forum won't let me edit my post in the other thread anymore (Couldn't they just add an "Edited by X at Y EST" line at the bottom of an edited post? It's only been like three hours anyway)

You really are asking a lot when you ask for a list of changes. For some reason, you can't have an updated list of hotkeys either.
