Does anyone get a blue screen?????

I recently purchased this game title about two weeks ago. I went through three disk before I finally got one that allowed me to play the game. Now I have another problem. Once I get the game going, I can't stop it. It is not that I want to stop it, just when I have to go to work, I like to cut my computer off, and can't. If I try to save the custom game, and then reload it, I get this blue screen. After about a week of seeing it, I thought I would finally do something about it. I wrote it down and I am going to post it on here to see if anyone else can give me some hints on how to fix it. I have downloaded stardock and updated every component of the game, but that didn't help.

Here is what the bluw screen shows.

I will include my debug.err also.

The crash is coming from your video driver ( ati3d1ag.dll ). Your drivers are dated in July 2003. Please check the ATI site for an available driver update. Thank you.

what part of "make sure your using upto date video drivers" do people just no understand...

This driver is only slightly newer but it might be worth a try. You can always roll back. http://www.video-drivers.com/drivers/141/141104.htm

I went to the link that you showed me, and when I downloaded it, it said that it was corrupted. I don't know what else to do. I have tried everything I can think of. Maybe the ati.com catalyst might help. Only time will tell. I will post more later if it works.

maybe you could try omega drivers?

Well, I went to all the websites that you sent me and I hate to say it, but I can not find a driver that is dated later than the one I have. I have also uninstalled the video driver to try and start over with the install process. But now I get a message, "Install a standard VGA driver.....", I don't really know what that means because this is a standard VGA card. Anyways, if you know anything else, let me know.

go to www.ati.com and click on the Drivers and Software section. Follow the appropriate steps to find your driver.

HOWEVER, i see you have a mobility radeon, so that means laptop. Sometimes laptop drivers are specific to the computer manufacturer, so you could also try their website.

And it's also possible, guys, that there is no new driver for a mobility radeon on HIS specific laptop model. BUT you can always try the latest catalyst drivers from www.ati.com. they should work.

OH and P.S. you're not alone with the BSoDs, i still get them every couple hours... without any files flagged as the culprit.. just random BSoDs with a generic shutdown and physical memory dump message... No explaination, just BYE BYE.

Never had the game crash the computer, using Athlon 64 processor, nVidia 7900 GT GPU with latest drivers. I've had the game itself crash a few times. Happens pretty rarely, but annoying if I lose gameplay. A couple times I've had the game go screwy on me. Both times I got a window saying the Altarian leader was killed and the new one declared war on me. This is with close relations and no provocation, then the universe filled up with like 10,000 Altarian battleships. I reverted back to a saved game and things progressed as desired after that. Don't know if that's an intended random event or what, but I'm not going to spend hours and hours mopping up all those battlships. And, the Altarians could not possibly have had the resources to that many out there in one turn. They weren't even next to their planets so how did they get there, lame.

Try to look a little more thorougly. At http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win2k_xp.php there are the latest omegas dated just a month ago, and they support ALL Radeons, desktop, mobility, and IGP, all versions 7000 and higher.

It looks like you're using a Dell Laptop. Go to Dell's website and they should have the best possible driver for your laptop. That's the only way I could upgrade my HP lappy.

If you haven't fixed this already, I'm running new Omega drivers from this site: [link="http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win2k_xp.php"]http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win2k_xp.php">Link They're a lot newer than the one's you've got. The ATI website claims most lappy's can't run catylyst drivers, but I've been running mine great for the last 4 months.
