AI's Massive Precursor Ship Discovery!

Bug, or fluke?

I was playing a game on the level below Normal difficulty. (Hey, I still am having a hard time getting better.) I had just taken over the Arceans homeworld, and was preparing to take over the secondary planet in the system, and at the end of my turn I get the message that they've discovered a Precursor Corvette (I think. Smallest one, right?) Big deal, right?

Boy was I in for a surprise. Suddenly there were 15+ fleets sitting next to that planet I was preparing to take over. I looked, and each one had 6 Precursor Corvettes in it. Granted, with the easier difficulty I was at, I was advanced enough to be protected enough from their 1 attack and 6hp each, but it was still such a shock.

Has anybody else experienced these massive discoveries before?

BTW, I absolutely HATE these goofy forums. Being forced to use HTML just to have proper line breaks. :)

Hmm, I notice that editing has no effect whatsoever even when trying to add new info....

I haven't encountere this myself... the large numbers of precursor ships or problems with the forums...

I once got 67 percursor corvettes in a game.

Turned up just as the dregin attacked they hit those corvettes like a bug on a windsheild was a major game saver.

Either it's the crappy IE browser I was forced to use to make the post, which wasn't properly refreshing the post, or the changes made in the edit truly didn't take effect for a few minutes. Basically I was just trying to insert the line breaks to make it readable.

I have experienced a problem such as that with the Yor. However, it was in the 1.1 version. I caught the Yor in the act of UPGRADING their ships from a normal to a precursor ship. It was early on the game so from 0/0/1 to a 30 or so attack really gave them bragging rights. And not just one ship, nearly 15 of them.

One time the oppisite happened to me. I got the message i had found some corvettes. Couldnt find them anywhere. Finding a ranger is awesome thogh

played over several dozens of game sessions, and NEVER ever found one.... or pirates, for that matter...

that is perfectly normal for a corvette find. just out of curiosity, what year did it happen? i understand you can't get lucky rangers til year 5 but don't know about the corvettes. i havent actually had a corvette find since 1.0x myself.

Of all the games I've played, I've never found a ship myself either. I think it's because I've never used the Lucky trait at all.

I found 15 corvettes one time. boy did I scrap those suckers fast.

Duh

I once played a game in which I found 8 Rangers, all on consecutive turns.

I'm having a similar deal. Playing normal as a custom race with increased luck. I "found" 3 Rangers in the space of 8 turns

The "Lucky" trait seems to really be the trigger for Corvette/Ranger discoveries. I haven't found one since I stopped taking Lucky. As for the pirates, that's a real shame. Their ships seem to scale to the most powerful in the galaxy, and they often make for very close battles. I've seen an entire galaxy at war come to a halt just to deal with some marauding pirates. The pirates also "liberated" some galactic resources that I happily scooped up

yes its the luck trait that triggers the precusor ships. my current game is on a gigantic map and so far i have discovered 4 Lucky Rangers. what life savers they are as well. somehow all of my opponents seem to be able to out buld me, out manuver me, and out reserch me. Keeping in mind that the computer rarley builds more than one factory on any given planet, most have no factories, go figure

Indeed, I had to do the same. No offense but the forum coding here is trully horrific. It took three browsers to even write a post, half the time pages won't load, it takes several clicks of the back button to actually go back as it loads the pages I can bring up multiple times, etc. I believe it is time StarDock invested in a professional board program like Invision or vBulletin.

Yup, I just played a game and after 5 years after working hard to build up my fleet, one AI superpower is left and they're about as strong as me. Then suddenly they get all these precursor ships. I'm wondering if reloading would fix it but I didn't want to because of the reload bug (see the wiki).

Yes and the forum goes down all the time. I haven't been able to make threads for a whole ******* entire *** **** son of a ***** month!!!

Happend to in 1.11 i think. one ai just got 5 ranges at a time in a single fleet. though it looked like he updraded some ships to rangers. also he had a bigger fleet then he could get with his logistics.

And yes, the forum seems to get crappier.

It's not just the luck trait that triggers rangers/corvettes, I think it's also the difficulty level. I used to get them regularly when I first started playing, but haven't seen any at all since I've started playing at crippling or above. In fact, I've even dropped the luck trait from my race now because it now seems pretty pointless!
