Custom Ships

My original game for GC2 wouldn't work anymore (all 3 saves), so I started a new one. Updated my game to 1.2 and went to town. None of the ships I built in my first game are available. Even ships that I designed EARLY in my first game (small hull) aren't showing up. Only ships that I've designed in the current game are showing up. What's the deal?

If your original game was verison 1.0(ish), then any ships you designed will not be saved in 1.2

Ships designed in 1.1 (and I think some patches before that) will be saved, but all 1.0 designs are lost when patching.

Componant sizes have changed, so things might not fit the way they used to. Most of it has actually gotten smaller though (takes up less % of hull space).

Has the file format for *.shipcfg and their *.xml changed?
Anyone got an old 1.1 type shipcfg and it's xml handy?

Holy cow, I can't believe they put out patches without backward compatibility! Don't they want people to upgrade?

Are you still playing with the same ship style? If you change ship styles in the game setup screens the ships you designed using the other style will not show up.

As far as backward compatibility, it has long been known and accepted that old save games may not work in a newer version of the program. So it is always a good idea to update the program between games instead of during one.

And it should not be an important factor, either. We have asked for a lot of changes to the program, which the dev's have bent over backwards to give us. They have even put in their own personal time, long hours on weekends and late into the night, to make sure we have what we want in this game. Their compensation for this extra time and devotion to this program and its users should not be even more complaints about such mundane issues as backward compatibility. Often the enhanced functionality of the updates require that it not be backward compatible. And I would rather have a better program than worry about loading some old games I have already won (or lost, as the case may be).

No, their compensation should be, at the very least, our praise for making a great game even greater.

I was able to save all my ships! The mod folder changed from being in my docs/my games to just being in the default folders of the game.

I don't mind not being able to load saved games either (seems like I should, but I just don't). It just feels different when you give users the capability to create something. That needs to be lasting because they own a piece of it now, they built it and designed it themselves. Would people put all the time into the cool ships thread Link if they thought their work would all be undone next expansion? Apparently so, but I wouldn't have thought so.

Ok - didn't realize that ships from 1.0 wouldn't work in 1.2. Is there any way to edit the configuration files so they will work?
