what to research to get ship X

Hello Is there a way, to figure out what techs I need to research to unlock specific pre-fab ships? For example in the first level of the campaign I ran into some an anomaly with my scout and it told me I couldn't do anyting with an anomaly with a specific ship (don't remember name so lets call it ship X). So I started trying to figure out what I needed to research to unlock ship X as a design. Does the game even report this in any way? I eventually figured out that all you needed was a ship with sensors on it and you were good to go on scanning those anomalies, but it would be nice if the game gave me some direction about what I needed to do. Am I just missing something? I see it in other places too, for example when I finish researching a new tech it tells me that this can be used to unlock ship design Y but not what else I need to get ship design Y. Thanks -Peter

the idea is not to have specific ships to research, but to design your own. Thats the upgrade from GalCiv 1

The research effects box on the upper-right in the Research screen tells you what ships are unlocked with certain techs (provided you have all of the other techs to build the ship). Of course, you can always build a custom ship with a survey module once you research the first sensor tech, and avoid having to unlock all of the others.
