Latest Review Round-Up

Reviews of Galactic Civilizations II continue to arrive.  This week, Game Planet gave GalCiv II a perfect 5 out of 5.  The only 5 out of 5 I could find on their page.

Meanwhile, GamerDad's Bernie Dy reviewed GalCiv II and scored it 4.5 out of 5.  GamerDad is a site designed to review things that might appeal to kids.  GalCiv has always targeted adults but it's a game that can appeal to kids as well (my 9 year old son played through the campaign for instance).

Over in the UK we finally got a review of GalCiv II that didn't conclude that the game was awful. GameCell UK gave it 8 out of 10. While taking points off for not having multiplayer and not liking the tutorial.  We do understand the desire of some people to have multiplayer but as the most recent poll showed, multiplayer was way down the list of wanted features in a future sequel.

Read all three and if you see more reviews, let us know. We always want to send traffic to anyone willing to go through the ordeal of reviewing the game. ;) !FROGCARE!

These excellant reviews obviously don't come as a surprise to me/us but it is nice to see the game continue to get great reviews .

I've just looked over the PC Zone review again and I'm still surprised at how very inaccurate and unfair it seems. I didn't notice the game because of the poor review until I tried a demo, and I loved it immediately. I guess you just can't always trust reviewers.

Cannot help but think, reading the review, that Starforces link "misjudgement" has been a windfall of good press and publicity for Stardock.

I don't know if you saw it, but a show called X-play gave galciv2 5/5. that's really good considering that I have only ever seen them give one other game (WoW) a perfect 5. they are tough critics. That was what made us decide to buy galciv2 in the first place! I love it!

X-Play is one of the best game review shows around. I've only seen them give 4 other perfect 5/5's (5 if you include galciv2). And to top it off, all their 5/5's are some of the best games I've ever played... With Galciv2 topping my list, of course!

PC Gamer=The R0X0R5

I didn't even know X-Play reviewed this game until i checked the forums. 89% is a close to an editor's choice as you can get. Good Enough for me

Coincidentally, I happened to read the GamersDad reivew last night before coming here to the forums. In addition to giving GC2 high marks, it was interesting to read his "father's perspective" on the game. Once again, congratulations to Stardock are in order!

I get really P'd off at reviewers who knock off marks for no-MP. That's only their personal preference. Hey guys, get over yourselves. Plenty of us prefer that kind of thing. Game reviewers aren't representative of the community as a whole anymore, just their own little gangs. I also didn't like the way he slagged off the tutorials. I thought they were excellent. I hate interactive tutorials, and performing a series of simple repetitive tasks when the computer asks me to. e.g. "At the bottom corner of the screen is a big button that says End Turn. That is the End Turn button. Try clicking it now. Very good, now you have ended the turn. Look at the turn counter. you will see that it has increased by one. That is because you are on the next turn. Check the technology screen. Last turns it had four turns until completion. Now it only has three turns to completion. Close this window and then click the End Turn button three more times..." ...zzzZZZ. PS: Why won't line breaks work? All my paragraphs are squashed together!!

LOL!  While not all interactive turorials are that bad, I know what you mean. I don't really care whether or not tutorials are interactive, though, so long as they convey the information they're supposed to in a straightforward manner. As long as I can understand what the tutotrial is teaching me, that's what's most important.

Heck if I know, but it's been bugging me as well. I hope this gets fixed soon.

Doesn't it ever occur that repeating your total idiocy of "but as the most recent poll showed, multiplayer was way down the list of wanted features" in every single news item just ruins your believability even more? I mean, you could either just shut up about the topic or try to be honest. But this is like saying "G. W. Bush was elected twice in a fair and just election, amen." three times a day.
