Minimap Graphical Glitch

Since 1.2

This has happened to me on more than one occasion, I think right after a pop-up box, like colonies rebelling from other races and joining me. Before 1.2 it never happened, while now happens quite often, even in the example mod.

Here's the link to the picture:

Anyone else is experiencing it or am I alone in this?

Let me add that I don't have the debugg.err file since I quite and restarted to fix it.

Try saving and reloading

I think I tried it, but does not work. If I restart the game it is ok, but that's not the point... You can't be restarting the game every time a colony rebels from your enemy and joins you!!

It looks as though the bounding quadrangle (which tells you where your current main map view is in the grandness of the galaxy) has redrawn lots of times but not been erased properly. I think if I recall correctly, there is an automatic camera move/zoom to colonies that join your empire, as well as the obligatory visit to the planet's screen to set production. Of course that doesn't help explain why the mini-map is malfunctioning, I would guess some drawing method isn't working properly.

Yup that's precisely it. The quadrangle previous images stay on the minimap instead of being erased. This has been a problem only after 1.2

i've had this too. After a while the entire minimap is colored blue since the quadrangle leaves ghost images. Restarted and it was fine but seem to come back after awhile. Haven't had a chance to start a new game yet to see if it happens again.

I also saw this in my first 1.2 game. I'm using an Nvidia 7600 GT graphics card and a dual-monitor rig. (GalCiv is only on one monitor). Not sure what set it off.

Same thing for me too. Always when a colony comes over to my side. Restarting the game will fix it for a short time only to have ti resurface a few rounds later.

Geforce 7800 here.

It seems to be set off by influence level. I have had the problem for some time and the devs are aware of it. Cari thought she may have fixed it for 1.3b3, but it persists.

It does not seem to be graphic card related. I have a Geforce 6800 GS, and other users with the problem have ATI cards.

It does seem to be related to multi CPU's, though. I have a dual core system, and if I restrict the game to a single CPU core before loading the game the problem never arises. Even in a game that had it happen that I have saved and exited from, if I reload using a single core the problem does not resurface. Loading the same game with both cores causes the problem to resurface fairly quickly.

And I should mention, since I don't seem to be able to edit my last post, that it usually triggers with a planet flipping, but only if you have a certain level of influence. The first several planets to flip over to me don't trigger it, but only once I get somewhere between 30-40 planets and I have reached a certain level of influence. But I do not know if it is a certain percentage compared to the AI, or if it is overall influence points, or even if it is the same each time it happens.
