Randomize Inteligence bit too random?

I have been experiencing strange AI behaviour when I select the "Randomize AI inteligence" in game setup menu. In example my previous game I had large galaxy with 5 random opponents. Difficulty set to Tough and Randomize AI inteligence option was ON. All is well but when the game goes on I start to notice strange thing. 4 out of my 5 opponents have only 2 planets and the last one had 15 planets or so.

So ok I like little random in my game but with this setting turning 4 of my opponents into drooling idiots and one gets super brain it just feels bit out of balance. Anybody else noticed this one? This is not the only time I have experienced this behaviour.

If you look through your debug.err file it will actually tell you a percentage value of what each AI has been set. It can be quite interesting. The value depends on the difficulty level, but it seems to disturb things alot. For example, randomize intelligence on Crippling might give an easier game that standard intelligence on Painful, as long as the situation works out to your advantage.

Generally I play with this option off, because of these reasons. I don't want to have lost the game before its even started, if one AI player become so enormously powerful from soaking up all the lesser AIs in the game.

That's why I don't use it either. Even if there is only one civ with horrible intelligence, most of the time that just leads to your main rival having almost twice the empire size they usually would.

Maybe a bit OT,

At Cakewalk and Easy levels the AI are all Fools.
On Simple, AI is Beginner, but at Beginner level the AI is Sub-normal ????
I guess it is so dumb at these levels words fail us ????

I believe I read that random intelligence actually only raises or lowers the current difficulty setting IQ by 10 points.

At tough/painful/crippling/ levels though that could be a huge factor on what the AI is able to do, as pointed out by a Draginol/Frogboy post about two months back when he was posting testing reports.

I think i´ll turn this option off too. Atleast I hope it will be bit more balanced in 1.3

What would be handy would be a slider that allowed you to set the deviation or distribution.
