Can I hope an amelioration about performances ?

Performance very bad

Hello

I have bought this game, like all wargames, to play a fantastic game, without having to buy last Gerforce 12.
Well... after all, developpers sell softwares not hardwares.

However, I have a P4 2.4 GHz, 1 GB RAM, Geforce 4 Ti 4400 (128 MB, drivers uptodate) ... and the game is awful, even with all textures disabled, when more than 12 ships are displayed....

I don't understand one thing. Why isn't there any option (or optimization) to reduce the number of polygons for ships.

I have searched all over the forum, and it seems that stardock completely ignore this problem... I am very disappointed, until Stardock seem to be very a fantastic game developper, wh listen very carefully to the gamers.. except for game performance.

And my question: can I hope, at any time, having a chance to see a patch (or an expansion pack, I am ready to pay for that) which will improve the game performance ? I had a lot of hope for 1.2 (because I saw in some changelog some directx improvements) but I have been disappointed..

Please Stardock, pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaase.....

GF 4 Ti 4400 was a great card 5 years ago (i know I had one), seriously though I would suggest you upgrade to at least the FX series which are pretty cheap if you can still find one.

From my point of view, this game does not justify to have the most powerfull geforce, especially to display only some ships..... I can't imagine that this game uses so many 3D features.

A Ti 4400 "was" a great card, but GalCiv2 is not technically awesome..... and smy Ti 4400 still can run very recent games in very decent conditions.

Are you using the ships that came with the game, or ships others have made?
The devs made sure none of the stock ships had more than 2000 poly's. If you are using those ships, then you definitely need a new video card. And yes, GalCiv2 does use a lot of the 3D features that your card may be too old to support.

If you are using downloaded ships they could be very heavy on polygon's. And there is no way to reduce a models poly's once the model is made.

The Geforce 6800 GS cards have decent performance, even with the non-stock ships. They run in the $150-200 range. So you don't need to go all the way top of the line to get decent performance, but you should consider replacing your outdated card if you are so unhappy with its performance.

well first of this game wasn't made to look awesome, only good.

second i think it looks good
i have a 2.6 GB, 1.5GB memory (though 500 is enough to run this game)
and my videocard is slightly less than yours
Geforce 4 4200 TI. and it runs the game good, what was lacking was my memory (500 is a bit low when you play a huge ass game with lots of wars)

Have you turned off the stars and nebulae? That makes a little difference...

It does. In fact, in 1.0 there were issues with it causing the latest & greatest video cards to overheat because it demanded they use every little feature they claimed to support, all at once, at excessively high framerates.

The Geforce4 series is pretty outdated in any case (especially the MXes which are effectively rebranded GF2s), and you'd be doing yourself a real favor by upgrading. So long as the rest of your system is up to par you should have no problem even with a low end 5xxxFX GeForce or 9xxx series Radeon (the game flew on the Radeon 9600 in my desktop once I upgraded it from an AthlonXP 1800+ with 640mb PC133 to an Athlon64 3200+ with 1gb PC3200).

I have a pretty easy time running the game normally with my geforce 5200 fx card. However, the scenes from the combat viewer are quite a bit choppy, having showed the Lady Che-Rene the problem she has determined that its more ram related on my end, not video. Personally though, I think I need to upgrade both.

Zobo, guess you have to look at the overall fun and overall want, base it on overall budget. You need an updated video card for the routines, I think your amount of ram is fine personally. Jewelry is a huge hog of memory. Consider only adding the min on the hulls the game offers is good advice.

Anyhow, good luck and good hunting.

Well..... I understand.

But why isn't there an option to reduce details, and number of polygons on ships ?

It would be so nice.....

There are plenty of options for reducing the details.
And the polygon count is determined strictly by the models. They can not be reduced, period.
Your only option with poly count is to use the stock ships without any jewelry. If that is not low enough, then you will have to replace your video card.

I run GC II just fine with everything on except for AA on my Centrino 1.3GHz laptop with 512MB RAM and Radeon 9000 w/ 128MB RAM.
