Custom Race ethics

Why cant we pick the the ethical alingment for custom races? (Yes i know you can modify the raceconfig file but still.)

It does seem like an oversight. So simple to include (I guess they just forgot).

I'd like there to be a mandatory favourite race and hated race too. Just for spice.

You can. Just research Xeno Ethics and a screen will pop up asking you to choose.

But then you have to pay for it. Besides, Xeno Ethics isn't a cheap tech...

@Mooseteck that is not what the original post was saying... and my guess is you knew it. Each of the AI races starts off with an alignment, why not allow it to be customizable for the custom race.

You sort of can customize it though. By selecting people's initial reactions to your race. If you want to be evil make all the good races wary of you, the neutral races... well neutral and the evil either wary or neutral depending on the back story you make up.

That really isn't the same thing

I was going to bypass this post, but I have to agree.

The Pryde are supposed to be neutral in the big scheme of things, as far as everyone else knows. However, they are not a democracy and have a tendancy to think about whats good for the race before the individual. The have castes which put family heritage and jobs over individual wants (mostly, although any given individual who is hot and I mean blazing hot ie: Spec 2 De-Vero in ongoing story can get promoted from their caste to the leadership caste). I have to admit other races may see them as a bit more evil than good.

Maybe this one should be looked at a bit harder. I for one am leary of updating Metaverse files, which is pretty much the only games I play.

Once again sounds like a good idea for later version or update.

The other races start off with an alignment number, which is not the same as having an alignment. It just means they will respond a certain way to certain things. They still have to research Xeno Ethics to actually gain the alignment.
And they do not have the alignment benefits until they do.

Still have to pay for it, yes. And there seems no way around that. You could give yourself the Xeno Ethics tech, thus saving the time to research it. But that would also cancel the chance to actually choose the alignment, because that choice window is triggered by completing the tech, not simply by having it.

But you know, it is not that time consuming if you focus on research while you are researching it, and if you have several Acadamies built. And once you get the NLC, well, everything else is so much faster that the time lost is gained back manifold.

Some things are better gone about the long way 'round. This is one of them, and it is time well spent.

One other thing. Once you choose your alignment you no longer get the alignment type events when colonizing planets. And those give benefits as well, depending on your choices.
So to have it too early can actually hurt you.

Well obviously if you want to play neutral (I guess so by how you mention NLCs) then obviously it doesn't worry you, since the custom race starts as Leaning Neutral. But the other civs, as well as starting with a certain morality value which determines how they select their random event choices, also have an initial alignment. The Altarians start off as 'Leaning Good', the Drengin 'Leaning Evil' and so on.

Yup, the Meese are a Neutral aligned race.

But you can change your alignment number in the raceconfig file so that you are initially leaning a certain way. And you can keep it that way by choosing the corresponding ethical questions.

If you set that number in the raceconfig file then you too should be leaning towards good or evil.

So I do not see an oversite that was mentioned above. Just confusion about how it works.

I was just wondering why you cant pick your starting alingment. Why are you stuck with neutral? And doesnt modifying the raceconfig count as cheating in the metaverse? I know you can just do that but still!

Hehe... nothin' beat my last game (I'm normally hardcore neutral) but I decided to tread a darker path, and after I posted to the metaverse my alignment said, simply "Pond Scum"... I love this game

I don't think altering the alignment value would constitute cheating. I guess you would have to try once to be sure though. But why not just leave it at 50 and make all evil choices? Wouldn't it pretty much amount to the same thing?

But that only sets how what type of alignment you tend towards, it does not set the alignment. For that you have to research Xeno Ethics and make the choice when that is complete. And there is no way around that if you want the perks assocciated with the choice.
