Feature Request - Planet locator, sift\search.

I absolutely love GalCiv2. I can't stop playing it, but one thing I do find annoying is trying to find an available shipyard, or locate a planet. I'm playing in a large galaxy, and it is difficult to keep track of all my planets, what projects they are working on, etc. If I use the current planet screens and use the pre. and next buttons, if I change what ship is being built, I get knocked out to the main game screen, and then I have to either search the map for hte planet I left off at, or go through the entire list again. Having a list form, search option, and automatically selecting a planet when something on it is changed by the user would be great! anyone else share this view or have any features I missed?

I want, in ascending (least to most) order:

1) The "Next" button to choose the next planet alphabetically, or for you to be able to select the criteria used in picking a planet "Next." I name my planets with prefixes based on their use, which helps immensely. "E (planetname)" worlds are economic, R is research, M is manufacturing, C is all three (combo), and I usually have a couple that are MR, RE, or ME. It's great for the lists you can alphabetize, but I wish it'd work for "Next."

2) I want the ability to set map pins of various sorts. It's hard to find a specific ship or planet in a Gigantic galaxy (once it's all developed), but it takes longer to use the lists because of all the loading time (on my 3.2 Ghz processor ). If I could make a stationary map pin that flashes on command (or even constantly but can be turned off, much as you can disable planets and stars on the map), or a flashing beacon that can be assigned to ships and fleets so that it moves with them, I'd save a lot of time that could be better spent waiting for the Turn button to come up again.

3) I WANT TO TURN OFF THAT [insert viscious serious of expletives here] AUTO-FOCUS. I know it's going away in 1.2, BUT GYAAAAAAAH! I'M TIRED OF WAITING! IT'S FREAKING IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL ANYTHING WITH THAT [expletives again] "FEATURE" PULLING ME TWENTY [expletives] SECTORS AWAY FIFTY [expletives, lots of them] TIMES IN A ROW WHILE I MANAGE A FLEET.

you can use the governers, in the civ manager, 2nd from last icon on the rights, bottom centre.

The auto-focus doesn't pull you away until you hit tab. So... don't.

Yeah, 1.2 is out TOMORROW. Hold on.

There is both a ship/planet search button, and a planet manager. What more do you want?

Bull. It moves when you end the turn, run out of moves on a ship, or garrison a planet. If you're trying to pull several different ships off of autopilot, or if you want to perform multiple actions with the same planet, or if you want to watch what an enemy ship does at the end of a turn, or if you want to use the same planet for several turns... well, you'd better have plenty of time on your hands. Actually, in the case of watching one spot to see what happens, you just plain CAN'T. I sometimes put cheap extra ships in areas that I want to use a lot (to prevent the camera from leaving when it snaps), but that doesn't help in combat areas since everyone is moving and it doesn't let you visually keep track of things.

Let me add another feature request: I would like the continue building ships option to be per planet, not just a global toggle. I would like to be able to set some planets to build a single ship, while others keep churning out ships.

Temporary fix for that... If you have enough money to buy the ship on the planet you want to produce just one, buy it, then set the Starport to build nothing. You will still get that ship and the Starport will not build another one next turn.

There IS a planet locator but it is currently broken.

I'm sorry, DreadArchon, I have been playing with the beta so long I forgot it was not generally released. In the beta after your ship runs out of moves the camera stays where it is and you can click on something else. Yes, your concern was very valid and they listened to that and fixed it (kind of).
