Mods - Besides TV Show (We all love StarTrek, Babylon 5, StarWars, and Stargate...but...)

Mods - Besides TV Show (We all love StarTrek, Babylon 5, StarWars, and Stargate...but...)

Okay, so just curious, what other mods are actually wanted by this communitee besides those based off of the above TV show mods? I'm highly anticpating and offering to particapate in any of them, but I also want to see some that are not related to any of them...I'm curious to see if anyone has any ideas of something original...I'm really hoping that DM04 has a great slow-start mod coming out, or that suggestions are accepted...and I'm creating some of my own, but I'm curious to see what others are looking for in a mod, so if you have anything you'd like to see, I'd really like to see you post it here, even if its been mentioned before!

How about an X-Com mod? With Sectoids, Snakemen, Mutons etc. =D

Let me know when this happens, thats in my top 5 games of all time. I can do graphics, ie logos, photoediting etc.

Star Control.

Sure, each race only has one "hull"--but they're each so unique that it'd be cake to make up more hulls and jewelry in the same style.

You could make some sweet scenarios out of it, too... Rise up against the Dynarri, the First Doctrinal War, the invasion of the Kzer-Za, the Second Doctrinal War, the Yehat Revolution...

Wow, glad there has been such a response in such a short time!

DM04, I did contact you by email....

I know that the mentioned ones aren't even out yet, but that is no reason not to work on something else at the same time, those ones are being worked on.... I am working on my own also, complete change of all races, and going to be an ENTIRELY new Tech Tree, storyline, everything will end up changed except possibly the screens and ships because I'm not familiar with any 3d programs yet...

BIG THANK YOU'S to bringing up Robotech! Was very surprized I hadn't heard that one yet, glad someone is thinking about it!
X-COM another awesome idea!

I meant this to be an original one, not based off of something else, but those ideas were all great, though some have been mentioned before...

What about books. The series by John Ringo called Legacy of Aldenta (avaliable from Baen Books with the first couple of books free in electronic formate). Its more of a land battle but a good series. Then theres all of David Webers Honor Harrington books for space. Well thought out books too.

How about a mod replacing all the techs with ones from Space Empires: phased polaron beams, depleted uranium cannons, contra terrene engines, etc.?
I would be interested in a Star Control mod though... maybe I could make some hulls for a couple races in Wings? And as for the Red Dwarf, I believe I already did make a model just for fun in my spare time... if you want I can post it somewhere...

Wow Traveller I used to love playing that between AD&D, Call of Cthulu, Top Secret and of course Paranoia....

Traveller was always my favorite.

How about a mod based on Battle tech? true it was mostly about the Mechs, but could do the clans and all the other stuff. I play the heck out of that game still on weekends.

I Like the idea of X3 & X2 ships... the Split Dragon would be sweet to see tearing up that Drengin & Torien scum. What would also be cool would be seeing your battle tactics happen in the invasion screen. You know, where you can watch the invasion. Just imagine, metiors striking the enemy arye for Mass Drivers, and mabey a mod with Battle Mechs so instead of those tanks you have mechs shooting the enemy. Cool. I see it now.

Since I'm just starting to figure out how to do this, I'm not sure how well it will work but I'm going to create a new mod that allows some of the biggest directors in Hollywood to go head to head. I'm going to try to re-write the tech tree to show cinematic technology and try and rename the improvements. I'm not exactly sure how well I can do it since I still have no flipping clue as to what I'm doing yet, but it should be fun to at least try, right? I've just completed the first of the "new" races, The Lucasians, led by the man himself, George Lucas. Now, should I give him more research (LucasArts, etc) or better economy (he's filthy freakin' rich), or social production...ah heck, all three!

I would love to see a Banner of the Stars Mod (anime show) there were some really cool ships on there

I've been thinking seriously about a mod depicting some of David Weber's Honor Harrington universe. A lot of challenges to that one, but I think it's doable. The extent of GalCiv's moddability (is that a word?) should allow enough flexibility to do everything except for fancy politics or tactical combat. I'd say that would have to wait for GalCiv3.

yes thats a word thou i do not think its spelled right

all of these are good idea's i cant wait to see them

Must.... include..... homeworld/homeworld 2

And yes.. Macross/Robotech for its sheer coolness

Same with Legend of Galactic Heroes... one of my top 5 favorite sci-fi anime of all time. I sure would like to take comman of Brunhile, Barbarossa or Hyperion... lol

And.. what about Gundam, lol sure it's mostly about mechs, but still they have star ships...

And with all the factions over the course of the entire franchise/series you could put them all together kinda like Super Robot Wars..

I'm with the Star Control crowd, besides, a creative person could easily make more hulls based on the same style of each race, Arilou ships would all be a different type of saucer, etc. I think that would work very well. Oh yeh and I want it, didn't I mention that? haha ha

Wow, Phantom, don't know why I haven't seen that one more often, could be great if done correctly....I think I'll go install my dune games to help spark some "ideas" for this one

At first i wanted just to make the improvements building cost more linear according to given bonus (rather a balancing-mod than a copy-an-overused-franchise-mod And now i got carried away and making an almost complete overhaul in the Improvements, Soldier,Tradegoods, and Invasiontactics Areas with more ethics addons. Back to topic : i really wonder that no one mentioned an obvious MOO2 mod !

For someone with decent modelling skills and access to the source material, BattleTech would be very doable. There are a LOT of space-naval forces in BattleTech (50+ fighter designs, 30-40 WarShip designs, 8-10 unarmed JumpShip designs, 40+ DropShip designs), leading to pleny of options for modders to choose among. You have major and minor races to choose from, easily-available logos for them, and literally hundreds of character portraits to choose from for the different "races" (or factions, as it were).

How about a Dune mod?

A dune mod would be pretty cool, what I'd like to see is a Heinleins Starship Troopers mod, based on the book not the film, there were a few more alien races and tech in the book.

Oh also how about furries?
go to www.encyclopediadramatica.com and search for furries

i have to agree a starship troopers mod would be really cool, if done by the books, the films pretty much sucked, both of them, I don't think most people even know about the second one!

much as i love Heinlein i have to disagree. you would be doing somewhat of disservice to Starship Troopers to make a mod in this game. the book is partially a homage to the PBA and GalCiv2 is definatly NOT about infantry. i would love to see a good game that did it justice tho.

Dune on the other hand seems ideal. to make good use of GalCiv you want factions, not races. it just happens that the factions ARE races in the base game, and many of the mods comming out. the philosophical differences amongst the major factions in Herbert books are certainly diverse enough to make good material for a mod.

this is the real problem with making mods from books. few authors have the time or inclination for providing the diversity to make a GOOD GalCiv2 mod from. I certainly don't fault them for that, it is only a vice if your talking space opera. for most the characters/factions are the means to an end and lots of these ammounts to clutter. Dune is one of the bare handful that a) has lots of distinct factions and b) has enough source material(books) to flesh them out enough to give you something to work with. now you will pretty much be on your own when it comes to ships for individual factions, and you might want to put it off until the expansion comes out with more diplomacy, customizable ai, and such, but i think it could be made to work.
