No New Graphics Driver?

Heya, I think my game's crashing due to the lack of a graphics driver made in the last year, but the card doesn't actually have a driver made in the last year - it's an Intel 865G/GV or something similiar, which supports 3DFX, and runs the game fine, but some sort of game event in the week I'm up to causes it to freak out (I have no idea what event, it never makes it that far). Any suggestions? Here's my debug.err :

You might try updating GalCiv2 to 1.11 or the 1.2beta. You are still on the original version and there have been a lot of changes and bug fixes.

I tried that, but I've got the German version of the game, and for some reason when I install the patch, the Turn button goes missing, and whenever I press Ctrl+N (next turn shortcut) the map resets itself. Weird...

Other people who've written on the boards say the patch works with the German version. Any ideas there?

Nope, sorry.
Can you replace the video card with something more current?

I have heard about that turn button problem before. I think.

Ctrl-N has always been a shortcut for New Map -- in case your original start is in a lousy position it generates a new random map to start on with all the same game settings. I don't know if there is a shortcut for next turn. Ctrl-T maybe?

I've noticed missing buttons too - which is odd, as I just removed the game and all its files and re-installed it, the extra stuff and then updated it again.....

This is a bit annoying to say the least!!!!!

Next turn I think is the return (Enter) button on the keyboard

I did a search for your video card at the Intel website and there does appear to be a newer driver:

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=1044&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&lang=deu&strOSs=44&submit=Go%21

I found it by going to www.intel.com and searching for the video card at the support and downloads page.

Other than that, I have no suggestions, as I don't really know what you mean by "it freaks out."

When 1.2 is released, you should get it from Stardock Central. I added code to read in the data from the English files, but it pulls the translated strings from the localized files.  So if your problem with the updates was related to the translated files, this should eliminate that problem.

*boggles over updated graphics driver* Wow, would you look at that... cheers Link, didn't even think of looking on the Intel site, just the HP site (using a HP).

And that Ctrl+N thing explains the random map reset, thanks guys.

I've been getting by using enter, but now I've found a new problem (but hopefully my updated graphics driver will rectify it ), in the game (and computer) freezing after coming up with the Windows error-
"The ialmrnt5 display driver has stoped working normally. Save your work and reboot..." etc

I'll go and try the driver now, but in case it doesn't help, any ideas? I fear I'm pushing my poor little computer to it's wits end with all it's restarting.

The error seems to occur in a week when I'm about to launch the first medium-sized ship in the galaxy (seen the movie previously) and also my intergalactic relations tech is about to finish researched too. Does that help?

Cheers again gang.
