core ships

are core ships of "enemy" civs stored in any other file then gc2ships.xml? I wanted to reduce the survey ship a bit (hyperdrives instead of ion drive, no sensor, just survey, no life support). It works for my starting survey ship, but all AIs have their original...

Hey, I don't know, but right now I'm imagining a mod where all the core ships are actually the most useful ships you can possibly build and they look cool and you don't even need to design your own except for special purposes. That would be neat.

The AI does not have core ships, they design all of their own. However, I don't know how to change the starting ships.

how do you get rid of the core ships

i am not to good at programming/modding so if possible i would need detail info

I would imagine that without the core colony ship the game would crash, Then there comes the fact that not everyone is into ship design so core ships are inevitible.

I think they are hardcoded into the game.

I'm not so sure, I have changed some of the .shipcfg files and seen big differences in what he AI designs. They don't use the core ship stats, but they seem to me to at least start with some of the designs from the shipcfg files and then build on those.

You can "remove" core ships by giving them the ImpossibleTech tag (as the starbase entry in GC2Ships.xml has).

After seeing some of the "Mech Warrior" type ship designs, and the "Home World" one - well done to u lot for being so good at designing ships (especially those who then put them up for download)

I have gotten back into ship design.... Which I actually started to find a bit boring... You can only ever really manage either a lightly armed ship with good armour or a lightly armoured ship with good attack, but not both (that is if you don't cheat and make your miniaturization skill something like a couple of million or something stupid).

What I would like people to do, if they are going to put their ship designs up, is to right a proper readme file - half the ones I downloaded don't work! This is people just say stick it in this folder, and there is always two or three of this folder, in two or three different places... Then theres the other files, which go where?

Oh well...

With regards to the core ships.... I don't think you can delete it..... All you can try is to either open the file in Notepad (or look up the Cooktop editor, which is an .xml editor and is free to download) - file being GC2ships.xml

Highlight the details of 1 ship, e.g. the constructor, CUT IT (don't delete it whatever you do), save the file but DO NOT close it, then run the game - START a new game, as a loaded one will not recognise the new data - I've tried this with the tech tree, which is why I say this.

If the game doesn't like it, then you can just maximise notepad and paste it back, resave it, and then you'll know!

Hope this helps!

Ryan Vincent is correct about the Colony Ship... Without that the game crashed.... The others, as far as I can tell - can be deleted. I just deleted the constructor, run the game, and it worked - the ship wasn't there, but when I put it back, and took out the colony ship, the game crashed back to Windows.

So there is your answer....

Again, I hope this helps.

Cheers.

YEah, anything other than the starting ships can't be deleted or else the game crashes. Some other ships are also used in the campaign game, so will cause crashes then too.

BUT, if you put in the tag "ImpossibleTech" like I mentioned, it doesn't delete the ship, it just makes it "impossible" to build.

This way, it does not show up on the build ship screen, but your starting ships (Colony, Survey) will work fine.

FORUM BUG

"please post a message before submitting your article". I keep getting this and can't get out of it even trying new posts. The message post looks different (with rich text stuff on it), too and I can't get back to normal. I've rebooted, restarted my browser, cleared the cache and cookies, nothing. It only happens when I create new threads.

If you impos. tech the colony ship does the AI colonize new planets?

Yes, it is perfectly capable of designing its own colony vessels.
