"Hidden" Hulls

Or maybe not...

Well, I was bored and playing around with modding. I've mostly been fiddling with the ship models, when I notice there are several "models" with the same name convention as ship hulls.

And guess what, it works too!

Just paste this below into your GC2Types.xml, start a game as the humans, and marvel and the wonderous force that is the little guy marching through space... Just need to strap a particle cannon on him and away we go...

There are a few other models too. I can see the soldier, tank, troop carrier thing all from the planetary invasion animation (which seem to use the same modelling procedures as ships, interesting....) and a few other mysterious hulls.

Yeah, there we are! Whats more interesting to me though is it is therefore possible to have SHIPS in the invasion battle, if one were to completeley fiddle all the file names around. I can imagine it looking a garbled mess though.

thats really interesting actually, and pretty cool. i like it

Are there any hardpoints on those things?

Yes there are hard points on them... Although the graphics are a little slipshod, but they are pretty cool.....

The carrier and the tank models have moving parts, which is quite funny.

Now, if only someone could design some weapons and structures that look like the ones in the "First Capital Ship" FMV sequence. That would be really great!

I wish the soldier had hardpoints. I would really use it. ;(

I guess the others are just some old models that were disgarded by the developers, they are not up to the same graphical standard as the other models, except maybe the one labelled Battleship.

Did you notice how the soldier 'vibrates' at an alarming rate

Must be all that coffee - or the fact he's nervouse of his oblong 'gun'

First of all, how bored do you have to be to come up with something like this?

Second, this has to be the most idiotic, stupid, ridiculous, waste of my time thing I've ever seen.

Third, wow that's fun.

Having a strange little man running around in space shooting at things is fun. And the soldier does have a hardpoint, it's on his pelvis (don't get any ideas), it's kind of hard to see though, because one of his arms is kind of hiding it.

I applaud you for coming up with this random yet extremely fun um... mod?... glitch?... thing?... or... *cough*... something...

Anyway good job, thanks for sharing your knowledge.

So what was the original intented use of these models? Were tanks and infantry supposed to have simular dynamics to the ships in terms of land battles?

Nice find though.

Those are the actual models used in the land battle animations. He just made hull entries in the xml files that used them.

I would like to see if it was possible to put ships in the land battles, although you are probably right, it would prolly be garbled up. Interesting idea though.
