I would like to create a FAQ of this game concerning repeated questions concerning the game..

I am planning to create a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) list applying to this site and things repeately asked by newbies and other members.. I would like any suggestions you could give me on this so I would not have to navagate this black hole of a forum for the questions asked over and over if you could provide the link with an answer to the question that would be much appreciated..

Thank you to anyone who chooses to give me info...

Good idea Conquest, we seem to get the same questions asked over and over again in these forums... it would be nice to have a FAQ somewhere

Do you know about the Wiki site?

Hey El Conq,

How about the Frogboy post on the Home Page....
About the Forum update thing ...
Could be an important issue ...

Feel free to give it a go Conquesto, but I doubt it will stop the questions (considering that we already had an entire front page full of stickied threads, which most new registrants merrily ignored...).

No I don't want to create a sticky I want to try solve some of the issues that reoccur here then link it to a sticky if possible Kyro..
Just need the posts on the site as to find a way to solve the issues concerning different things here... That is why I have also asked for the solution to the problem as well.. There is no saying where this FAQ will end up yet but intend to post it somewere..

Do you know about the Wiki site?

yeah! I wanted to specifically target why people post here instead of look on the wiki... I would like to answer most questions concerning newbies but also some high level players and there questions..I tend to answer some of the questions that repeat themsevels and would like links to the question and the answer if possible and will keep updates as things are fixed in the game like patches and Expansions..

Well conquest, a good idea would be a link to tactical combat and MP threads. Since I am incapable of responding to multiple "omg j00 suck MP/tactical" posts without flaming, or even "mp is easy, even though I know f*** all what I'm talking about", perhaps the quotes would be nice.

I can't find MP or Terror Stars yet, but this
I for one don't enjoy tactical combat. I always hit Auto in games like Master of Orion. But I also felt I HAD to play out remotely close battles myself in order to ensure success because I wanted to win the game and it bugged me that the leader of an entire civilization was having to tell fighters which ship to fire at.

Other people don't agree. That's fine. But at the end of the day, I am the one who decides what is in and what isn't.

Tactical combat won't be in GalCiv II. It might be in GalCiv III. But ONLY if I can make it in such a way that the people who would hit "Auto resolve" don't feel like there would be a material difference in outcome between auto and having played it through (i.e an expert player might take a 5 to 4 disadvantage and win but they wouldn't be able to take a 5 to 1 disadvantage an win).

from Frogboy, is a good enough start.

yeah! marc thanks for that Terror Stars seem to be frequent here but if you could provide the link to the forum post it would help..

Wow Marc,

I had not seen that "frogboy" post ....
But, while I did like like the MOO2 tac combat ...
I am NOW - into the "rok - sis - paper" type combat
Of GalCiv2 ...
and I am still kicking AI butt ....
I LOVE this game ....

Nah we don't need a Faq just tot tell people they can't have tactical combat. I for one want Tactical combat and multiplayer and consider this post and the comments therin an insult to my beliefs.

Wow GenOside,

No insult intended ...
ALL on this site/Forum get to say thier piece ....
Give me MP, maybe I kick you BUTT ... (or you kick me)
Tac combat - I have NO fear ...
Could be better : SPY - Diplo - UI ...
Game is good - just as DEV created ...

I've been told by the Google or Wiki that no search result was found on some of your keywords. Is it too hard to understand for someone like me?

FAQ is fine, except some of the most frequently asked questions, no one knows the answers to....

1) What does creativity do?
2) What is the exact formula for population growth?
etc

A strictly rock/paper/sissors option for tactical combat would suck. E.g You get to choose 3 options A,B,C , A gives an advantage over B, B gives an advantage over C and C over A , or variants of this sort.

In such a case, the best tactic from a game theory point of view would be a strictly random choice. Therer is no strategy in that and the computer would own (unless you hacked into their pseudo random generator!)

It's the same reasoning why the AI's INITALLY randomly choose to specialise in Missiles/Lasers/Drivers, on the theory that all weapons are equally good (some might dispute this), the best strategy is to choose randomly. Someone who always chooses lasers, or 50% between Lasers and Missiles could be busted once the pattern is seen as such the best strategy is truly random (or as close as you can get)/ .

Of course with choosing the line of weapon research , there IS strategy involved because you can react to opponent choices.

But for tactical combat, R/S/P is the dumbest model I can think of, it gives you an *illusion* of strategy, but there isn't any actually. The best strategy is to throw a dice.

How about a slightly better search system - or have the webmasters for this site make a proper FAQ section for everyone!

well tends to be if they haven't done it already they are not to concerned about it so it won't happen anytime soon... And what is wrong with me doing it... I have many sorces from the devs including the wiki which no doubt the have had some input to..

I can answer these

1. Creativity is a random dice roll of free tech advances.. A roll is made based on your ability and if it rolls yes based on the % factor you have for an empire you will get a free tech advance in any area availible to research at that time...Say you have a bonus of 50% so there is a probability of 1 in every 2 dice rolls that you will get a free tech upon advancing a tech level. <<< all based on probability..

2. Pop growth is based on your morale and base ability so if you have a 70% initial pop growth in your calcualtion and you have a morale of lets say 70% which is average there are no pop growth bonuses and defects added...

so if you have 70% on pop growth initally and population grows at an average rate of maybe .80 billion a week then you take 800,000 which is your pop total and muliply it by .70 which is you precent and you have your bonus population for that percentage increased... A math problem to ponder..

A strictly rock/paper/sissors option for tactical combat would suck.

Whether It be TBS or RTS I'm still for it. I really want the simple slider combat of Master Of Orion 1 just simply being able to move your ships wouuld give me joy.

And It would be simple to turn The current Combat viewer into a RTS combat simulator.

The fans want one the other or both including multiplayer in an expansion pack.

If you say Tactical combat sucks your saying every 4x but GalCiv has sucked for the last couple years and thats not true.

then there is bounses in morale and defects in morale at certain percentages if your morale is higher than 95% than you will have a pop increase bouns if it is lower than 45% than a defect is added if you have not initial pop bonus then you will start to lose pop because of a negative increase in pop growth..
