Unforgiveable, utterly unacceptable, horrifying thing missing in GalCiv2!

The reason why GalGiv, no matter how great, must get a zero!

I'm sorry, but this is simply terrifying, and impossible to imagine any good turn based game to not have! There must be a noise when you press the End Turn button!!!!!!!!! Whether it is a crappy "Turn complete" to a harmonious chime!

It might not seem like a big deal, but it has many perks!
a) it makes it clear when a turn has been made, takes away the risk of not noticing two turns passing!

b) it sounds nice, and gives you a tiny sense of accomplishment

c) following from b, this possibly conditions your mind to think of that sound as a positive cue, and hence feel like working towards pressing the end turn button even more, just to hear the sound again!

d) it makes it feel like something has happened, instead of the silence and unnoticeable change in date!

Please, I beg you, add a chime option! Of course, it can't be an annoying chime, it has to be a comfortable chime!
(I was joking about the getting a zero thing, enjoying Gal Civ 2 at the moment)

Nice idea, like it. Should be simple to add (IMHO)

At least he can spell, while your stuff looks like you were wallowing on the keyboard...

I like the idea of having a nice, subtle yet satisfying (and optional) "End Turn" sound.

The sound of a toilet flushing...

Yes, we should also have a choice of several sounds to choose from.

Ka ching!

Or perhaps, Ka choo!

After, "It's Time To Die!"

The Joker laughs.

I vote NO! I HATE the click sound in I.E. when you click. I, for one, don't miss an END TURN click at all.

Hey, maybe you could have an alignment-specific sound for end turn. For evil civs you could have a taskmaster encouraging slaves to work harder with his whip

*phew* I though this post was going to be about the lack of a tactical battle screen. -.-'

Yeah, and also there could be a option to turn the end-turn-button-noise on-and-off.

Meglobob, if you "do not wish to", then why do you?

I, too, like the idea!

I think an end turn sound takes away from the game experience. I mean if you afe trying to engulf yourself in the galactic empire scene, and then every 30 seconds or so hear a noise, it would detract from the whole experience. The glowing button in the bottom right corner is more than enough for me.

Ya, sounds good, like the ideas of "Yes, we should also have a choice of several sounds to choose from.", "For evil civs you could have a taskmaster encouraging slaves to work harder with his whip".

When I Shut Down Windows I had Alpha Centauri's "Don't go!, the drones need you, they look up to you" play (for some reason though it never played in-game). Everyone loved that one, even my wife would say to me sometimes when I was going out "Don't go!, the drones need you, they look up to you" lol. But I lost that computer (and all the computers I owned, in fact everything I owned) and every game I owned for the last 23 years in a fire. I had so many games I couldn't keep the boxes anymore (and the boxes I had cut down and taped front and back together) because I had no room to keep them. Even my Atari 400, 800, 1040st with monitor still worked after all those years. Those where the days when you could just pull out any old game and/or computer and It was like playing it for the first time. But let's not go there. She's in prison right now but not much of a consolation.

Gee, all I wanted to say was I liked the Idea.

Oh! I have a complaint!

This is an open letter, which you are welcome to use as you wish. I want as many people as possible to know that there's a duplicitous, pestilential fence-sitter born every minute. For practical reasons, I have to confine my discussion to areas that have received insufficient public attention or in which I have something new to say. It may seem difficult at first to improve the physical and spiritual quality of life for the population at present and for those yet to come. It is. But Noise is guilty of at least one criminal offense. In addition, he frequently exhibits less formal criminal behavior, such as deliberate and even gleeful cruelty, explosive behavior, and a burning desire to organize a whispering campaign against me. He refuses to come to terms with reality. Noise prefers instead to live in a fantasy world of rationalization and hallucination. He has recently been going around claiming that every word that leaves his mouth is teeming with useful information. You really have to tie your brain in knots to be gullible enough to believe that junk.

Unless Noise defends the real needs of the working class, it is simply wrong to conclude that it's okay to prepare the ground for an ever-more vicious and brutal campaign of terror. It's not necessary to go into too long of a description about how he plans to make our lives miserable eventually. Suffice it to say that several things he has said have brought me to the boiling point. The statement of his that made the strongest impression on me, however, was something to the effect of how the worst types of aberrent devil-worshippers there are are all inherently good, sensitive, creative, and inoffensive.

I recently read a book confirming what I've been saying for years, that Noise has been known to "prove" statistically that people are pawns to be used and manipulated. As you might have suspected, his proof is flawed. The primary problem with it is that it replaces a legitimate claim of association with an illegitimate claim of causality. Consequently, Noise's "proof" demonstrates only that my current plan is to get the facts out in the hope that somebody else will do something to solve the problem. Yes, Noise will draw upon the most powerful fires of Hell to tear that plan asunder, but he is the picture of the insane person on the street, babbling to a tree, a wall, or a cloud, which cannot and does not respond to his manifestos. While criticizing his opponents for enforcing a moonstruck orthodoxy, Noise himself is trying to enforce a particular orthodoxy -- the orthodoxy of out-of-touch, vengeful unilateralism. Many people respond to his abusive words in the same way that they respond to television dramas. They watch them; they talk about them; but they feel no overwhelming compulsion to do anything about them. That's why I insist we take away as many of his opportunities for mischief as possible. Yes, he may have some superficial charm, but people should soothe each other's pain, not exploit it. Think about it, and I'm sure you'll agree with me. Let me close by reminding you that the statements I made about Noise in this letter are in earnest. I will not equivocate. I will not excuse. I will not retreat a single inch. And I will be heard.

LMAO

My computer makes a loud CLICK when it revs up for all the processing required at the end of a turn in a Gigantic galaxy, so I have this already.

Woot. I'd love to hear the flushing noise.

Or better yet, how about a voice speaking in monotone telling you how long that last turn took? "Six hours, forty-two minutes, twenty-one seconds."

The noise would be different every time! Unless you just mauled the end turn button, and you'd get "One" "One" "One" "One" "One" "One" "One" "One"... etc....

Meglobob, if you "do not wish to", then why do you?

I just could not resist it. Took the post to be a bit of a joke, really. Do u really feel achievement when u hear a ping or a beep? Gimme a break... If it is your thing why not just go up and down in a lift, just imagine all those thrills you could have. Ping...doors opening...ping doors closing

At least he can spell, while your stuff looks like you were wallowing on the keyboard...

U been spying on me AGAIN?

"Slurp" ?

Seriously, I would like a sutble "chiiiiiing or click"

Ya know, there really might be a good idea here, especially if it was an optional noise.

Kinda reinforces that "just one more turn" mojo......

wow...all this fuss over a sound...it would completely annoy me to have that sound, but I guess if you would like to hear it then I don't think it would be to hard to put one in...

Apparently you missed the humour of the OP, which was IMNSHO a very creative and admirable way of approaching a simple request for a small feature that one person desired and apparently a lot of people thought was a good idea as well. And hey, with the new emphasis on modding, you could put your own, personalized "ding" sound in, or none whatsoever. Heck, you could have a sexy female voice like the "MacSlave" audio theme someone released for Macintosh computers ages ago, or the one in Sims 1 that said "reticulating splines" in a way that made it sound obscene

Now that you mentioned it.. I would like to hear a sound when you press turn. Like a clicking sound. Well, wait.. not clicking cause my hard drives already doing that. Something else.. maybe something that could be modded.

the one in Sims 1 that said "reticulating splines" in a way that made it sound obscene

Heh, that's not just Sims1, every single SimCity game has also used "Reticulating Splines", it was just finally spoken in Sims 1 and 2. Funny thing is... I think "Reticulating Splines" actually means nothing and was probably done just for the sake of randomness!

I agree that an option to play a sound, or an option for a confirmation on "End Turn", would be nice. Especially when you are like me and start scrolling and clicking on the mini-map and hit that spot close to the "End Turn" button that runs a turn, but you didn't want to run a turn yet. Fortunately, I've only done it twice in my current game...
