A Dutchman's Broadside

Dead ships and their parting shots

I have to begin by distributing a large quantity of kudos to the galciv team. The game has been great and the updates are really something I look forward to. More praise is due than I care to go into detail about right now, but let's just say your game rocks.

Now onto a small detail I thought I'd mention since I haven't seen it posted anywhere yet. Of course having said that, my first reply will probably be a link to just such a post. Ehem, anyway...It seems that the new code to allow defending ships to fire their shots has one issue that if resolved would make it 100% kick-butt. The defender still fires after their ship is dead and no longer onscreen. The effect is a mysterious muzzle flash and a parting shot, ostensibly fired from the "other side" (cue eerie music). While I fully enjoy the new change, if the defender could delay exploding into a cloud of debris until they have had a chance to fire their last shot, it would improve the experience immensely.

I think I've seen this happen. I've also seen kind of the opposite, where the battle ends while there are still ships on boths sided alive. I think the animation just gets out of sync with the damage scores sometimes.

I agree the mystery laser burst from the dead ship locationm is kinda mood disturbing, I've just learned to ignore the locations of the balast and concentrate on the impacts. It would be nice if the explosions were after those final lase r burst from the dying ships.
