Two points we agree on: falsifyability is a key element of science. Science is not the only measure of 'truth'.

I don't think that modern sociology offers many disprovable theories. Ideas yes, theories no. Some of them may be true, but it's impossible to establish which ones without faith. And well-founded faith can be a legitimate reason to believe. Science doesn't preclude faith it complements it.

As to human sexes, I don't think it requires 'interpretation' to establish they are a dichotomy not a continuum. It is evident that the human norm is male/female and that 'intersexual' human offspring are not a part of normal development. Science tells us this is an anomaly and not, for example, an inheritable trait like red hair. Additionally, outside of science, every Faith says the human family is composed of men and women. Genesis says "male and female he created them" for example.

Its the height of folly to believe that all scientific evidence and all religious faith is wrong and a particular grievance-based political viewpoint is correct.

As far as genetic abnormalities (forgive the sterile, insensitive term), some errors, mutations, and possible evolutions will occur in any complex system given enough permutations. I myself am a simian. Our sympathy, but not pity, should go out to anyone suffering due to any genetic discrepancies. They cannot expect the rest of us, however, to alter simple queries such as M/F whenever and where ever they occur.

You wanna know what I think the reason for the poll is? Whoever is responsible for it had to throw up a topic (amongst 557 other stardock activities) and recalled one of his/her/its colleagues say. " You know, I bet the whole forum is a sausage fest."

I personally am not offended if a questionnaire doesn't have “other” as an option. The intention of this poll was most likely to ascertain the ratio of male and female GalCiv2 players. The whole argument of “not everyone is male or female” is true, however considering that this was a poll simply being for collecting information about the audience of this product, it seems wholly unnecessary. You don't even have to respond to this poll if you so desire.

While this argument may have a reasonable place in society, I believe that this is a waste of time and effort to debate in a gaming forum. I think that the poll in fine as it is and future polls concerning gender or similar topics with few choices don't need an “other” option. Its just a poll, it wasn't created to offend, nor was it intended to cause me to lose sleep reading through this entire thread. Can't we just leave this alone?
