Uninstalled demo, now Stardock Central can't upgrade retail

Brief one, this. My laptop had the GalCiv II demo installed while I investigated if it would run, as it's a low-end machine (I may detail how well it works in a separate post if anyone would like to know). It ran. so I went out, bought the game, and installed it. Weeks later, I ran out of disk space, so I uninstalled the demo... and now Windows's associations for the main GalCiv II install are messed up.

Loading the launcher in the Start Menu gives me "install game" instead of "play", as if it was running from the CD. Running SDC cannot find my GalCiv2 folder, just showing "--" under the "Version Installed" column. However, loading galciv2.exe in the directory worked fine, letting me finish thrashing the Dregnin. I expect the demo uninstaller wiped out some registry settings that the demo and retail versions share.

I suspect it'll all work again if I just install from the CD over the top of the directory and re-run SDC to get the patch... but I don't want to risk my save games, so I'm checking here first. Can anyone advise?

Your saves should be safe--if in doubt, just may a backup copy of the My documents/My games/GalCiv2 folder.

Otherwise, you shoudl uninstall the demo before installing the game. As the demo is effectively the same as the game, but with some limitations imposed, they are both seen as the full game to SDC. So removing one will cause it to forget the other if both are installed.
