Do your fleets defend starbases?

Do your fleets help defend starbases along with the starbase, or is the battle seperate? IE they attack your fleet, then they attack the starbase, or they attack your combined fleet+starbase.

Sorry I've never had this happen, so I don't know.

From what I've seen, they attack only the fleet and not the starbase. I personally believe the Starbase should be in the battles as well, and when I first saw that they weren't I was very disappointed.

Placing your fleet on top of the starbase, means the fleet has to be defeated before the starbase can be destroyed.

if you have ship assist(s) on the starbase they will help but sadly no that would be cool to have them fight alongside your fleet or just a ship

If you have mutiple ships or starbases or what not (fleets too). The game will select automaticly the best one to choose to defend.
