In my opinion (and I don't have the numbers to back this up) , cheaters outnumber expert gamers. Call it a two or three to one ratio, just to be on the conservative side.

This leads to a bit of a reality-disconnect: Expert gamers deride the use of cheat codes, and yet, it's the cheaters who make a game profitable enough to keep the genre alive. If the cheaters couldn't cheat, they'd just find another genre to game in or, worse, turn on the television or read a book.

Cheaters subsidize the gaming addiction of experts. Abuse the cheaters enough and they may leave. Then the experts have to decide: pay three times as much for the same games, or don't and allow the genre to wither and die.

Mind you, I only ask for tolerance for cheating in single-player games in a non-scoring/non-ranking mode. People who cheat in single-player games to get high scores for bragging rights are only due condescension. People who cheat in multi-player games should be hunted down and blasted with paint balls, then have their game disc snapped in half.

Me? I cheat. I don't brag about it, but it helps me set up the sort of game I like (advanced civilization, but vastly outnumbered). Do you have to like the fact that I cheat? Not really. But realize that I just put $50 in Stardock's financial statements.

To the original poster: you're willing to pay $500 to get rid of cheaters? Great! That's ten of us. But realize, there are hundreds or thousands of cheaters more who will be disuaded from purchasing Galactic Civilizations 3, or even a future expansion. You can't expect Stardock to give up such a large income stream, so I don't think your offer will be accepted.

I read all of your responses.. and I am seriously floored by how idiotic you are. If your spawn find it necessary to cheat in order to have fun/win, don't assume everyone else finds it the same. Sure, I can shoplift, or lie, but I choose not to. I can speed when driving, but I choose not too. I can keep going.


By removing an option, it doesn't make the game better. But having it there, let's the people that like to cheat enjoy the game as well. I personally like to duke it out with the various AI's.. sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, but I never consider cheating... ultimately who am I lying to when I cheat??? myself.. hardly.


People should choose for themselves if they want to cheat....


Ultimately.. they can always hack a saved game file... so taking away those options will not change anything.

First, I have never said that the cheat options MUST be removed, because it is a fact that this game has cheat options included. Second, I tell you what you telled me, I like a girl, but I won't rape her in order to get her!
I wonder whether you understand that to hack a saved game file needs techniques but to cheat by pressing an idiotic hotkey doesn't need any.

IMHO, someone always try to keep others consider that cheats are harmless. Sure, for sane experts, it is a good way for seeking their faults and meantime, this can also improve and perfect the quality of game. However, what I mentioned is using cheat = using drug for newbies and greens. Whenever they are defeated by others, I mean, either by the computer AI or others, they can win by a costless resistance. By this way, they can always keep them successful but when a real strike comes, are they mankind enought to hold up? If the immaturenesses keep in this manner, what will happen after they grow up? I am not a wild man or psychologist, I can't tell you what they think but you can just treat this as an question to yourself.

Another Edit: I hack almost every game I buy, Im currently trying to "hack in' the ability for starbases to move, also in extending the range of starbases, so that can be considered a "cheat" (although they already seem to be built into the game, but not implemented)

It might be a good idea to go back to the coaching you do. It is pretty clear from this person's earliest posts that this is likely the case. Why must you be told (?) ... or be so rude?

Regarding cheat codes ... I do not use them, but I don't really care whether or not other people use them. However, I happen to agree that the developers should not include them in the released game. If they need them for debugging, etc. they can have them in their 'working' copy, and release a 'clean' copy. Yes, others will develop cheats after release, and that is okay too.

Although I was unable to read the original post before it was deleted, I surmise from the rest of his posts that ShadowTek.net was not objecting to cheats, whether they were needed for debugging, etc. ... only to them being included in the released game by the developers. If that is the case, I agree!

Cheating is a part of life! Is it good? I am not sure... Is it fair? definately not. Can it be stopped? never. Does not including a cheating/debug mode make the game better? maybe for some pople but not for others.


Do I cheat? No, why would I waste my time learning the rules of the game and getting good with the various strategic gaming options if I am to ultimately cheat anyways.

Have I cheated so I could win to see what happens? No, not my style of gaming.

Should I tell others how they should play their game? absolutely not.

Does them cheating somehow affect me? only in multi-player games (no such luck here), or in metaverse games ( I never submit my score... since I am not THAT good) so neither affect me.

Now, here is my problem with your logic (not you, per se)... calling people names (cheaters) because they choose to cheat is bad... in the same way that I am making fun of your poor english (yes, I know it is mean). Maybe they aren't as good as you, and maybe they never will be, but who cares if and why they cheat...

When growing up, my parents explained to me that if I cheat/Lie/Steal I am ultimately only hurting myself... that is how I understood it, and that is how I look at it.

Let's see what ShadowTek.Net posted at first, he mentioned that cheats ruined the game by shorten its life and meantime, he would like to pay Stardock some cash to make it taked off. For personally speaking, I thought this was just a joke because I didn't believe that ST would be asked for that $$$ even though Startdock removed the cheat options. However, the post then quickly fell into another discussion that cheats in a personal game wasn't the others' business. Well, perhaps someone really got stung. I all along don't tell anyone that cheats options are illegal because it is attached to the game officially. What I want to mention is using those options is somewhat like using drugs. It is not my business that the others use it or not but the FBI adviced us that "Winners don't use drugs" so I don't like to see the cheat options were abused, especially for the youths. I know some of the posters here don't like to see those dull discourses but hey, just treat that as another ad. in the street then everthing goes fine. Anyone wants to convince me that I am wrong, sorry, so do them because we are just the passerbys A or B. Don't under or over estimate the ponderance and the world becomes peace again.

Why should we game through hours of turns, only to have our enjoyment screwed up by the game not going in a direction we enjoy?

This topic seems to become an childish argument of justice(no cheats) and evil(cheats). I don't understand why there is always someone tell others cheaters are bad enough and good player are so deeply-hurted by them. I do not brag that I've seen many well skilled while good mannered players on the net. But more I've seen were those who always try to insult the newbies or using cheat to win surely in their way. This is so common in the net because the net is somewhat the same as the society we live. I know someone sometimes treats himself as the X-Man, Superman, Captain America or the cop so they try to punish those so-called evil guys and then proudly announced that who he won.
