A note for Amanda

you are graduating today
eighteen years old and ready to
bury the world in your wake
the coming days weeks months years
will move with ever increasing speed
and tomorrows will travel into yesterdays
and hardly a moment to look back and
remember an old man that used to walk you
to the swimming pool or bake psychedelic
cookies or dig mud holes in the garden or
watch you sleep with your tiny snoring when
your day ended, but whatever you remember
I hope you remember this--love you.
