Would you sacrifice your life...?

This question has come up here at JU... I'll answer it the same way I did then...

Obviously I've never actually sacrificed my life, since I'm not here as a ghost writer. ;~D

However, I have been in too many situations where my life was in danger to say that I wouldn't sacrifice my life for not only family and friends, but complete strangers. From the deserts of Iraq and Saudi Arabia, to the streets of Atlanta and Milwaukee and the mountains of Utah and Idaho, I've faced the spectre of my own death.

I've even had a near death experience and lived to satire it. ;~D

I would certainly sacrifice myself for my family.  Because saving the world would include them, I would sacrifice myself to save the world.  If everyone I cared about was gone, I would take my chances and see if someone else stepped up to save the world.  At that point, I don't think I'd really care.

Like ParaTed said, I've never actually sacrificed myself.  I do know that I couldn't watch my children or husband die.  Self preservation instincts are strong though.  It is hard to know how you would react in any given situation until you are in it.

difficult question, for me it would matter what kind of mood I was in I think, there are some days when I think the whole human race is worthless and would not mind seeing it all end, then there are days when I realize how precious life is and that people are worth saving.

Absolutely.

In fact, this is the easiest form of the question. What would I have to live for, if the world was destroyed? So I'd lose my life now, one way or the other.

Much more difficult (and interesting), would be the following form of the question:

Would you sacrifice your life to prevent the destruction of a single person, a stranger to you?

I think *we've all* had those days. At one time or another.

apparently it's been far too long since I've posted one of my Satires of Personal Tragedy, Disasters, War (and other things the just plain suck) :~D

Well, I have risked my life more than once in the past, so I'd have to say it's a possibility. Dieing has never really frightened me so would I die in order to save the lives of others? Probably, but it's impossible to answer definately until one is actually in that situation.

I think Parated answered it best. As a volunteer firefighter, every time I climb on that truck, I do so with the very real knowledge that I may not return. It does not ever stop me from rushing to make the run.

I'm familiar with this thought. My Dad was a LT. in a big city firehouse. His life was in danger many times. He pretty much used to say the same things. He said he always went into a burning building with God. He broke his back once on the way to a call hitting just right while on fast bumpy roads inside the cab of the truck.

So ya any that are in the business of rescue put themselves on the line many times during their lives. I'm very grateful for those that do so.

In lots of ways, its better to die today than old and gray.

You fight for what you believe, you fight for your principles, if it means death in the end, its going to come sooner or later. So tell me again the meaning of sacrificing your life. You just mean the time you have left to live.
