Roleplay anyone?

so do....

So does anyone else out there besides me roleplay in this game? Yeah i know its a stratergy game, not much room to Roleplay but surprisingly I'm finding the game a lot more enjoyable doing so. What I mean by roleplay is not necesarrily just going all out to win the game, but playing the role of the race youv'e chosen as you see it.

Case in point. For me I made a custom race know as 'The Energon alliance'. There a race made purely of Energy naturally. For them I tend to pick traits i would associate with beings made purely of energy. Same with techs. There main means of weaponary are Beam weapons as there nature gives the good insight into the workings of tada Energy. i view them as a nuetral race, so naturally I take the neutral approach to all ethically dicisions, and do not go out of my way to create hostility between any other race, but will defend myself when approached Just things like that. It impossases artificial limits on me naturally, sometimes making the game difficult if not impossible for me to win due to my own imposed limitations, but still I find purpose to it, and throughly enjoy playing this way.

just wondering if there where any other players out there who played simually.

I play as the Nosarog... A custom race composed of Rhinoceros like creatures. They are reclusive and tend to shun other alien species. We do not like it when anyone, and I mean anyone puts any kind of starbases in our sector. Since the option of asking the Aliens to remove the starbases doesn't exist. We immediatly call forth to 'The Crash" to exterminate said aliens. We do not trade or communicate witht he majors, only the minors. We are scientific explorers, but when forced to fight, we do so with little abandon.

The Dantonian Empire. A highly insular empire that maintains a strong millitary presence as a deterrant more then anything else. They refuse to spread out from their own space (which usually occupies a whole corner of the map) until drawn into combat, when they strike without hesitation.

They're a neutral race with technological emphasis who never start trade routes until the race near them has been stable and at war with no one for at least a year. Two years if they're still stable they're willing to have an alliance, though they view it less like brother empires, and more like them looking after 'a wayward son'.

They focus on singular ships of great power, medium being their smallest, usually, but fleets usually composed of no more then three ships. This means their defensive abilities are very important (usually I get ships with defenses totally over 60) and they rarely suffer damage.

Oh, and recently I've included another race into my arsenal. An insectoid race with slightly stunted researching abilities (hard to think creatively when you live in a hive mind). However, they have incredible economic, morale, and production abilities. Throw all that together, and you find fleets composed of two sorts of ships
1. Tiny hulled expendable craft making up 90% of the fleet
2. MASSIVE heavily armoured warships that act as the flagship.

Throw in a dash of inability to really act diplomatically, and you end up with an evil race (for the reason they know no better, they see something they want and they have no qualms with taking it) that just sets itself up for a few years, then flows out in a massive swarm over their foes.

I roleplay the Phoenixian Domain. A human race originating from the early days of the 21st century Earth. As it so happens, an American corporation found a worm-hole just outside of Earth's orbit. Using civilian produced space vehicles as a colony ship, high paying colonist and thrill seekers jumped at the opportunity to be the first man to settle another world. As the colony ship entered the worm-hole, a huge explosion occured. Earth mourned the thousands of lives lost in the tragic event.

Unknowing to Earth, the colonist survived intact. With the wormhole gone, the colonist settled the fourth planet of their new home and started to rebuild not knowing that the worm-hole not only sent them to another location, but to the past. The colonist began to call themselves Phoenixians for through fire they were reborn. Hundreds of years passed and a thriving civilization prospered in a golden age. Genetic and cybernetic research was embraced, the old taboo of earth is forgotten. Earth, the legend of Earth is long forgotten and rarely spoken... Until one day, a signal from the stars... From Earth...

I play as the Ichtarians, a humanoid/fish race. The Ichtarians are naturally aggressive as they constantly identify their own territories and defend them to the death. They are not hell bent on taking over the entire galaxy but they like their room. Every so many years when spawning occurs, war is declared on any race who seems to get "too close" to our spawning planets. The Ichtarians believe that large "schools" of smaller ships provide the most security but the ruling family owns several small fleets with large "roque" cruisers who patrol space looking for easy prey. Ah, I love this stuff. If I could only create my own AI for them.

Roleplaying, eh? I do quite a bit of it, usually as an altered Terran civilization called either the "Terran Confederation" or "Terran Empire". I also roleplay as the "Dominion of Man", a custom race which basically amounts to a breakaway human civilization which is highly militaristic and xenophobic to the point of being genocidal. Heheh. My latest game, though, I've taken control of the Korx and am now roleplaying as that evil group of scum. Though the rule of evil might not last, as complete control over colonies isn't exactly easy...

I like to play as a custom race called the Wyrms.
They are into the fine art of breeding (+70), and it keeps them very happy (+30).

I play custom races, but I've not tried roleplaying. I just go with whatever works. This is a great idea! I think I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

I played the snathi as they were described (custom race of course). I'll usually pick a midgame play style that resembles the race I selected. I think my next sandbox will be altairan, and I'll see just how good and diplomatic I can be and still be a contender.

For the record, I think that taking altairan just so you can choose all the evil event options and then end up neutral for NLC's is cheesy. Valid on masochistic if you want to win, but still cheesey.

I play as the Believers, we are a extremely religious sect that develops extremely advanced defense technology and tends to stay away from the production of warships unless there are those that are seen as "heretics" or "disbelievers"

The Yor for example

I have actually written stories set in universes that have unfolded before my eyes in this game. My user name is actually the name I've given the Terrans in my games, while I just imagine the Stardock-named aliens are...named something else

::Using an aged Precursor artifact, the Dark Snathi revive a dead thread from ages ago (8days)::

You know what it says about the dark yor vs normal yor? We are the Dark Snathi. We have three castes: the Treekeepers ( Influence / Pop growth / Morale, Pacifists), the Acornfinders ( Research / Sensors / Morale, Technologists: Start with Sensors and all pre-reqs...don't even have hyperdrive...takes 5 turns usually to research impulse.) and the Nutcrackers ( Attack / Pop Growth / Soldiering / Morale, War Party)

The size of a Terran squirrel, glowing green eyes with an eye-beam. Strictly nocturnal. Cute, happy, and evil (even if pretending to be good....the Treekeepers like to 'fit in').
Spawned by C. Montgomery Burns and Waylan Smythers in Springfield Park, Earth. (Marge vs the Monorail)

On any map possessing the Snathi minor race, I either spend all game trading exclusively with them ( and defending them) or conquer them first thing if they don't like me.

Meh, I play mostly the T-Sidian Commune, a dark sect that were a splitter group of humans, who are mostly darwinistic bastards. We kill those who are not fit to survive, but never do it ourselves (outside the commune of Termino itself). Manipulation is the name of the game, and we pretend to be good, but often our nature exposes us (start as good, and work the way down to demonic).

We never fight our own wars, but are normally funding someone else to do it. Our bonuses to weapons, espionage, and economy help greatly. We pay no heed to those fools at the united planets, and have left their pathetic union many times, if it deemed more profitable to do so. We own the galaxy, and our army is made of hundreds of the best ships we can find. We pay others to start and finish our wars, and hide our involvement under the cover of false alliances, so we are never seen as the greatest threat.

You have no chance to survive. Make your time.

I play as the Zam Kingdom. We are nuteral, leaning towards good. We rarly try to expand outward and instead defend our borders with vast armadas of the small Squires and medium Knights. We be farly peaceful, but if someone broches or claims our borders, we summon the large Holy Paladins and the huge Judges and crush the invaders. The forces weild missles but the Zamlord's secret service, known as the Mages, serve with beams. Our planets florish with our PQ bonuses and we have a higher reaserch ability than most. We be good friends with the Altarians, due to the simularites in our arcane-oriented cultures, but we rarely form alliances with others. And we shall crush the Torian Confederation and the Drengin Empire for their tainted ways.

All hail the Zamlord!
