On Boredom

I know life is too short to be bored or to even complain about being bored. But let's face it: it happens. I, right now, am bored. Hence this article.

But as much as being busy with doing a zillion things, being bored is still something i'd miss when i'll be on my dying bed. Why? Because it is part of life. And when i'll be about to die i will miss life, duh!

So instead of complaining about being bored, I will enjoy blinking in front of my computer pretending that I'm busy.

I hate it when life slips away from me so stupidly. **oops i just complained there! shit**

On sickness

It could always be worse. I finally get to see my BF and what happens? He gives me whatever chest-illness he has. Now I'm coughing up a lung (as is he, 2.5 hours away). But, I'll keep this chest cold with happy heart.

Ahhh, but the point of my posting. Since you will be surfing the net, have you ever visited www.illwillpress.com ? It's a fun (if full of language, violence, etc) site from the Lord and Master Foamy the Squirrel. I suggest visiting the archives first, just so you know what you're getting into. HIs rants, fan mails are really funny, though my favorite is Squirrelly Songs or the Amityville Toaster.

Have fun!

HAHAHAHA.

Yes boredom is part of life....and here I thought it was just mine!

You are such an upbeat person IG.  I like the tone of your articles, the fun, even the serious comments are up beat.

Sorry you're bored.  When I visited my grandma in Southern Kentucky as a teen and got REALLY bored and complained about it....My gran would say, "Boredom is the sign of a weak mind."

Of course she worked like a horse sun up til sun down and raised 5 kids pretty much on her own.  And she thought World Federation Wrestling was real and the best thing ever....so there ya go!

Hope you feel better soon SHE.

Ah Em, I know the feeling. Although at the moment I'm too busy to be bored. Although last night at home I found myself in the same predicament as you. I twideled my thumbs, literally, wandering around my home staring at nothing. That's cause I've got a lot on my mind. Ah well...it happens to the best of us and hopefully yours will pass soon.

Youth is impatient.  Rightly so.  Life is too short.  Are you too impatient?

Not one of us can tell you. Only you can tell us.

But before you do, live it, be it, experience it!

And bless us with your sucess!

I am very impatient, I want all that I can get and I dont want to be stuck with mediocrity. Phew, feels good to get that off my chest!

*shock* Are you saying it's not real????? Hehe...

I know where you're coming from IG, I have this very same problem late at night when I can't sleep. I'm not sure the feeling is boredom, but it is something similar. Not knowing what to do with myself, and not really finding interest in anything. Mostly due to the fact I just want to sleep, hehe! At least you have the internet at your fingertips! There's always something on here to relieve boredom!

Thx Em! Yes, just busy with work-related projects. Well, lets just say I'm celebrating everyday as it comes. Nothing that can't be fixed. I missed 'seeing' you too. I'm sneaking a little time away before I get back "out" there!

I went to a special lecture one day by a visiting PhD. and was told that there is no such thing as boredom -- simply a feeling of disapointment that a situation did not meet our expectations. Of course, when he told me there was no boredom my first reaction was, "You wanna bet? Then what am I feeling right now?"

Boredom can be a good thing. I've been bored all morning and LOVING it. But there are those times when you think, "Why on earth am I watching the history of the toothpick... again?"

(Oh, and I feel much better. Thanks ladies!)

Oh yeah, that definetely sucks when all you want is to do is sleep but you cant! I havent found a remedy for that! I mean I get to sleep fine but lately I wake up at around two or three in the morning with my mind racing, and then I cant get back to sleep. It's been 4 days I've come to work looking like I partied all nite...
So Sally if something works for you (not sleeping pills, i'm scared of those!) let me know

Good on ya!!!!! That's a fine attitude

Okay, okay, hugs and kisses to you, and go save the day

Rrrriiight, lol! Well isnt that the definition of boredom? That PhD didnt discover boiling water, lol!!

I think when I actually enjoy being bored is when I'm lazy
But there are those times when you think, "Why on earth am I watching the history of the toothpick... again?"

UGH! Tell me about it! hehe! I am fed up with watching the same DVDs over and over again, I need some action! lol! But then, when I actually get some it tires me to quickly, go figure!

I've heard it said that at the center of boredom is what Zen most desires to teach. I hope ya learn something, Em!

Damn, Shovel beat me to the quote I wanted to use... Great minds think alike, I guess (or fools seldom differ - not that I'm calling Shovel a fool, mind you). I am also reminded of something my Dad used to say whenever any of my siblings or I would say we're bored "Well, I can always find a chore for you to do..." We would very quickly find something we liked to do to occupy ourselves

Interesting, I'll have to try and concentrate on being bored next time. I wonder what he wants us to know?

That is why I am very careful to never say i'm bored when i'm home
