WORD UP

The game works perfectly...from the first install. My historic DELL 733/512 ATI 9600 has run this game on 1600x1200 without fault or fail. This run of user problems is mostly a maintenence and or hardware problem. Learn to operate your puter, take some time to read a operational manual and stop blaming this particular developer for your lack of basic computer skills.

Sorry, but you can't generalize that way just because you happen to be one of the lucky ones with zero problems.
Granted, some of the problems are because the user has old drivers or strange processes running in the background, but some have been programming errors as well.

Your post merely shows your ignorance.

what do you mean "one of the lucky ones", moose? most people ran the game without a problem. these forums would be fl--ooo---ded with angry people if most people had a problem.

stardock has even run polls to find out what % of people who hang out here, which is likely to have a higher % of problem users, and it never showed up over one little dot on the graph meaning few people are having problems.

I am somewhere between you two but if you really read the forums, there are far more that a dot on the graph that are having problems. Its not as bad as many make it out to be but lets be realistic, there are too many posts that say otherwise. I had pretty good luck running the original version, horrible luck to the point of unusability with 1.1 and good luck with 1.11. Moosetek13 may overstate it some on the negative but you also do the same on the positive.

I can say I have had problems because of old drivers, but I've fixed my computer issues, and now the problems I'm having are definetely because of game coding. If you think Stardock has done a really good job of making this bug free.. take a look at the forums of major producers like blizzard, Stardock made a great game, and they're making great effort at making updates.. why can't they transfer some of that work into making better code? I'm incredibly frustrated, granted there are worse buggy games out there, but in my personal experience I've never had to work so hard on my computer for anything - new hardware, bad games, viruses - than i have to make this game work.. and I'm still not done.

By lucky I do not mean the rare few and far between. I consider anyone lucky that has zero problems, that's all. I am not one of the lucky in that regard, although I have very few problems. The only issues I have had are the occasional flip out to the desktop or the sometimes choppy audio as I am loading a game. Nothing I am inclined to rant and rave about. And there is probably some percentage of gamers out there that suffer the same types of things and don't report them, but just take it in stride.

But there are a significant few that have serious problems, and many more with more glitchiness than me. And I do know how to take care of, and configure computers. For 10 years I was the sole tech and builder for a company that speciallized in desktop video editing computers.

From that experience I can understand both the lucky few that have no problems and the unlucky few that have many. It is not always as simple as it may seem. A different version BIOS or driver can make a lot of difference. Just moving a PCI card to a different slot can make all the difference because of how IRQ's are shared.

There are literally an infinite-1 number of variables in the PC world, any of which may cause or solve a problem. It is not always a coding error or user error that can be pointed to as the culprit.

And with all that, the Stardock team has to put up with neophites and ignorants, that have no understanding of what actually goes into solving every little problem, downing them and the company because not enough time can be put aside during regular business hours to do the impossible task of making a game that is compatible on 100% of the machines out there. I have seen insulting posts about the fact that the Stardock team puts in personal afterhours and weekend time, just to make this a better product.

Try getting that kind of dedication any where else in the industry. I have yet to see it.

And this OP that is so pompous in his own wonderful computing abilities that he can state that all the problems are by ignorant computer users?
Just more of the same from the other side of the fence.

Heh, the only problems I've had with the game are ones I've made myself. Like when I accidentally deleted the data/english folder, and the game just wouldn't run. Or the time I deleted the core ship designs and tried to start a new game without the stock colony and survey ship. Those were the days. Plus, it's not always the coding that can lead to these bugs. With such a large volume of file's being transfered from SDC, it's no suprise someone may get a corrupt file. It's always a good idea to archive your previous working copy.

One last thing, Kentf tried to compare Stardock to other major gaming companies. Since when is Stardock a major gaming company with comparable resources. Besides...they're called beta's for a reason.

Microsoft games can be buggy as hell...they sell like mad.

Stardock is no Microsoft, thank God.
I think they only have around 1 or 2 dozen employees. It is amazing what they have done, and are still doing for us, considering how small they really are.
