New Xbox 360

First of all let me tell you I know nothing about video games, I mean I do fool around with my bro's playstation 2 every now and then, but I am not into it hardcore.

I dont even know the name of the games, I just say 'racing game', 'fight game' or 'war game' and HE knows what I'm talking about, lol.

But lately I have wanted to be into it a little more and buy my own video game. At first I thought about buying the PSP because of all the features, but then again who would want to watch movies on such a small screen. And it's not as if I travel very far very often. And being not so delicate with things like my phone and my camera I think my a$$ would hurt if I broke this fragile thing that would cost me too much money.

So I was drooling over the new XBOX 360, especially after hearing about all the great things it does and about the awesome designs of the games etc, etc. And when I mentionned it to a friend she said "NO WAY, dont get lurred, just wait for the playstation 3". *sniff* BUT WHY??? Why so much cruaulty when I finally decide to enter the cool world of games???

She said because it's shit, and the playstation 3 will be better and that was what her boyfriend told her.

Ok, fine, if he said so then he must be right.... Errr... Can someone (if they agree) please explain why??

I think i'll just buy the old Xbox, they are doing great deals on them like buy an Xbox and get two games FOC + it's half the price of the 360 :d

I'm a Playstation user, not because I chose to be but because it was a gift. I've not played with an Xbox but friends who have say it loads quicker and the graphics details seem to be better than Playstation. But don't take my word for it. Hopefully someone else here who has played with both will respond and give you a better idea. I am happy with the PS2 but am looking forward to seeing what PS3 has to offer.

Thanks for the comment Maso
Well I have to say I'm not much of Playstation user anyway, heh! But yeah I'd love to have games of my own instead of only playing when I go to my brother's (IF he lets me play, which doesnt happen often...).
And instead of buying the Xbox 360 i'd rather wait for PS3, i mean if it's worth the wait.
But like I said, I'll probably just settle for the Xbox, or the PS2. Will see... I'd love to hear the opinions of hardcore users though, because they know alot about it!

PC not enough for you?

Well, call me a fanboy, but I would be pretty wary of the PS3.  In terms of graphics, when it launches it won't look any better than the XBOX 360 titles, and will likely look worse.  Of course, as time goes on and developers are able to better test the PS3 it will likely have better graphics than the 360.  But honestly, I don't think the difference is going to really be mind blowing.

Likewise, the price for the PS3 is going to be outrageous.  At least $200 (US) more for the comparable version as the $400 360.  That means to get the decently equiped version, a couple of games, etc. you will be looking at dropping $1000.

Also, let me just say that XBOX Live is an amazing service.  It really is very strong.  I am sure the PS3 is going to be a great system, but I wouldn't discount the XBOX so quickly.  I absolutely love my 360.

Obviously not! Haha! But this is something my Dad would say if he knew i'm planning to buy games!!

I play my dormmate's XBox 360 and it's not too amazing. Computers are better really. The PS3 is going to be roughly the same as the XBox 360. Both not worth the money. The Wii might be good just because it's original and ...cheap!

Wow thanks BlueDev!! Now this is the kind of comment I was looking forward to (heh yours too Maso, love ya, xoxox!!).

So it is likely the PS3 will have better graphics than the 360? Heh, I dont know how better they can get, but i'd be curious!!

$400?? Can I suicide?? Here it's sold for about $100 more for just the 360 and count an extra $150 for a game... I can hear my bankaccount screaming for help...

Yep I heard about some features, it sounds like it's a PC itself! I'm not sure if you can play online, I think I heard something about it, but maybe I'm getting confused with something else...

So we have one happy XBox-er, anyone for the PS3?

I dont really like the computer because maybe my eyes get tired quickly, maybe because I am too close. Funny because at work I dont get that. Anyway, I also like the wireless controler, and the fact that everything can be organized around the Xbox! AND IT LOOKS GOOD (I'm a girl so that explains some weird choices, lol) But that's just me, heh!

PS3 is going to have a Blu ray drive built in, so even at 600 bucks its probably a good deal. The Xbox 360 will have HD DVD as an add-on. So 400 for the xbox and 200 for the add on drive, so thats about the same cost as the PS3.

So then it boils down to the games you want to play and the quality of the graphics you are willing to accept. X360 will have lots of shooters, like Halo, PS3 will have alot of the Sony exclusives.

There is of course the 3rd player in the console game, the Nintendo Wii, which looks to have a lot of potential for games if you like the Mario style platformers and the like.

Cheers,

I could have gotten a PS3 when it came out or an XBox 360. What did I do?

I decided to drop the money on top of the line gaming PC. The RPGs, Strategy games, shooters, and everything else looks, controls, and can be modded to such a better degree that it just makes zero sense to get a system when you can get a top of the line PC. Graphically, the PC will always outperform if you take care of it and upgrade.

I noticed a lot was mentioned about graphics. Graphics are good. They make a game look good, but graphics aren't everything. In my book, graphics don't count for much. If a game is a good game, then it's a good game. Graphics would be the icing on the cake. A bad game with good graphics is still a bad game.
I'm just some college student, so I can't really afford the new systems (well, maybe I could, but that wouldn't be very responsible with my money). I play off the systems that my friends own, and I own many of the older things (Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Playstation). Like I mentioned good games are good games.
Personally, I'm going to wait a while until the prices on these things drop. I'm not willing to pay $400 for any system. It may take a while, but I'm patient

I'm a PC gamer, but I follow the entire gaming scene and am a tech oriented guy.

The PS3 has a lot more potential than the 360. It has a LOT of potential power, and is capable of much better graphics than the 360. But, it's expensive and whether developers utilize the power effectively has yet to be seen.

The 360 is cheaper than the PS3, it's out now, and has a good amount of power. Sort of a middle road choice.

The Wii from Nintendo has the least power of the three (still decent graphics though). But, It's cheap (every nintendo console has retailed for 200 US$), and its very innovative.

If I HAD to choose one, I would go with the Wii because it looks like more of a 'fun' console in terms of gameplay and innovation. On it will be more games breaking molds than just looking better. It's cheap, and looks to be more fun. Only downside is, you'll have to wait til it comes out later this year.

video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7927652166413426644&q=wii

Look at this video (from google video). While the PS3 and 360 are boasting HDDVD or Bluray disks, cell processors and other things that you as a person who just wants to have fun doesn't care about. The Wii is built around a new kind of controller, a different, new way to play. It just looks like more fun.

But I'll stick with my PC, thanks.

if i had the choice, im goin with the 360, cuss more titles at least 4 a while, has more time tested, and i know more of it then the ps3, plus, i prefer the controlers of the xbox more

If you're trying to get out of this cheaply and still have a decent system to play, buy the original Xbox or a PS2. Play it for a while and then you can decide if going to the next level is what you want. Each system has its advantages and disadvantages but the best thing to do is look at the games to see which system will play the ones you want. Xbox live is a very nice way to go if you want a subscription service that allows you to play online against others. If you are one that just has to have the latest thing and has the money, Xbox 360 or maybe PS3 may be the way to go. The issue of Blu-ray vrs HD-DVD is not worth much in my opinion unless you will be watching the latest movies and have a HDTV. I think from your experience though, you will find the older systems will give you plenty to do for a while.

K, you'll have to translate that for me: Blu ray and HD DVD = ?

Yup, i thought about it and i do like the Sony exclusives. But for some reason the wii doesnt sound as attractive as the other consoles

What can I say, you have a good point there! Am I being a fashion victim??? Heh, maybe I should wait for the prices to drop a little too, but then a better console will come out and I will want that one, lol!!!

hd dvd and blue ray are the two next generation of media content storage (basically the thing that will replace DVDs) but right now forget bout them there not really that good of a feature since your going to be able to be fine with DVDs for a long time unless your some tech junkie but from your posts i dont think that you are (could be wrong though)

me i have a pc and a gamecube and i put more hours into my pc than anything else but its definently not for everyone and if your going to be a pc gamer your either A going to have to know how to upgrade your pc or B going to have to know friends that will help you upgrade your pc. then theres the hassel of trying to find a good pc that has everything that you want. dont get me wrong when you get everything set up a pc is by far (IMHO) the best thing out there in gameing but pcs center mostly on RPGS, RTS, TBS, MMORPG, and FPS if your not interested in these gameing types then you may want to look for a counsol

for a counsol everything is nice simple and easy you hook up 1 cord to the tv and then one cord to the power and boom your done, no drive issues, very few crashes, no operating system errors nice simple easy this would probably be the best way to go for u cause i get the impression that you have no clue what your doing in this area

now before you go out and buy a system i would wait for all three to come out before you go off and invest your money in one of them. rush buying a system will give you instant gratification but if you choose the wrong one you could end up being on the loosing end of the counsol wars and have a system that has no games on it (thats what happened to me and the gamecube, absolutly love the games that i have for it promblem is theres few and ive beaten all the games that i have) once all the systems are out its all a matter of which one looks like it has the best games to suit you and is in your price range. im personally looking forward to nintendos wii because of that sweet controller (and metroid prime 3 that games going to rock) that and the fact that im out of the job makes a cheap system look alot better. the xbox 360 has alot of neat games out for it right now and im looking forward to playing a few of the ones that are coming out for it soon on my cousins system but the price tag and the fact that you really need an HDTV to really take advantage of the graphics (although they do look alot better than the wii on a regular TV) the PS3 is just plain expensive way to expensive for my tastes but i have played some sony exclusive games and they make some of the best RPGS around ill admit that so if sony specific games suit you well then save up and prepare to spend a ton

honestly though the system could be crap but if good games are made for it it will win the counsol wars and be the most played system. that really all it comes down to is the games and you can only buy the system that has more games that are geared to your tastes

btw if you want some more advice on what system you want to buy try and tell us your gameing preferences like RTS (real time strategy) TBS (Turn based startegy) FPS (first person shooter) or whatever you like also naming some title of games that you like to play now could also help us find out what system might be right for you

Well, you're obviously very undecided. Don't put out the money for a next generation console then. If you must get a console, get a cheaper console (ps2, xbox, gamecube) and see if you like it. Spend some time playing it. Then you'll know whether the the money for a next generation console is worth the money to you. Chances are, your tastes are similar to your friends'. If your friends have consoles, and like them, get the one they have. Hell, maybe just borrow one for a week or two and see if you use it.

Also, you seem to really like wireless controllers. All three next generation consoles have the option of wireless controllers. And there are 3rd party controllers for every current system that are wireless. So no matter what you choose, you can have wireless controllers if you really want them.

Also. Just something I've been wondering. You say you know nothing about video games. Galciv isn't exactly a casual gamers first choice. Do you.. play galciv? Or did you just stumble on these forums?

i own the x-box, the ps2, and the cube. it is true that the ps3 will be able to have better grafix than the 360 but despite what a lot of people say i dont think the difference in them will be all that noticable after looking at the specs. cirtanly not anything as big a difference as the ps2 to the x-box, or even ps2 to cube. what it all boils down too is games. the wii will will most likely have a poor selection just like the cube does. the ps3 will have a lot of japanese games on it just as the ps2 does. im not a big fan of japanese rpgs and overly simple(in my opionion, dont hate me for it) hack and slash games so i rarly play my ps2. i love action rpgs, and third and first person shooters so im more into the x-box. what im saying is that you shuld not be deciding on a console based on power, you should be deciding based on games. look at current and futer games when you make your decision. the ps3 will have final fantasy, metal gear, and tactics games such as front mission(which i do like-the tactics ones not ff and mg) 360 will have star treck legacy, halo 3, and probably (crossing my fingers) another crimson skies game. these of course are just examples. there are many more varietys of games on each console. as for the wii (wy couldn't the have just stuck with the name revolution?) i like the price (is it $250? im not sure but its cheaper) it of course will have the zelda game. i was very disapointed with the selection of games on the cube. and the controler took the fun out of first person shooters, tho this wont be a problom with the wii's controller(the classic one, not the sensor one). im probably going to get the wii first myself due to the price and the fact that i play more computer games than any other(its the only real system for strategy games and space sims) but i have spent many many hundreds of hours on colsole gameing so i feel i know what im talking about(do try to correct me if im wrong on this). those are my thaughts on the subject. i love all three of the current consoles so i tried my best not to be biust(how is that spelled?). it all comes down to the games themselves.

Just imagin actual using the controler as a lightsaber with rumble in a Starwars game.... I'm a PC user but thats enough for me to start drooling

Myself, I like 360 because of what microsoft wants to do with it and how they do it. Sure they want to control your living room, but if they are willing to lose alot of money to do it and buy you out, I say go ahead. Sony, well, they also want to control your living room. But the difference is that they want you to pay them your life savings and your unwashed used panties to use for their weird sexual acts (They are Japanese, they do that crazy stuff, if you don't believe me, watch Shocking Asia).

All kidding aside, I have both XBox and PS2. I would like both of the next gen system. But if I had to pick one, I'll stay with the 360. It's cheaper and their graphic is the same. Don't believe the hype of the PS3 graphics, its like comparing the latest from NVidia to ATI's latest, it all comes down how the developer's uses it. Also, Sony's exclusive titles are almost gone, Grand Theft Auto will come out for both systems at the same time. Sure sony got God of War, but Microsoft gots Master Chief.

So, it's all really up to you. If you want a console, get 360 because it will be cheaper. You get more bang for the buck. But if you are serious about being a gamer, want alot of options for games, have some money to spend, and don't want to look immature by playing video games, get a PC. The PC (personal computers) can make good excuse. If your wife/hubby ask why you bought a new PC, you can always go with the the "The kids needs it for school." excuse and just don't metion the $600 video card. Also, there is no limits on the games. You will NEVER see Galactic Civ on a console. And you can do alot more than just play video games on a PC.
