Does not work well with All-in-wonder 9800?

I am testing the demo copy of galcivII and really like it except that the system keeps crashing. I had pretty recent versions for all the drivers, but I went ahead and upated all video drivers and it seemed to help a little but the system still crashes and reboots. Any comments?

If your system is unstable just when you run galciv2 "demo" version I would suspect that its the naturn of demo versions that your coming up aganst. Your probably not running the most current patch. My video card is the 5700 Ultra which is about two years old and it runs great. If you like it buy the game.

yea, the demo has crashed a few times (it doesn't seem to crash now), usually when exiting or going to windows screen, so I've just attributed that to the demo because it works fine otherwise.

I have a 9800 All in wonder installed in my computer and the full version of the game (with the latest patch installed) works perfectly.

I have a 9800Pro and it works fine. Though the Pro and All in Wonder versions are different...

Maybe your computer just sucks.

I have a 9700 AIW with probably 2.5 year old drivers with only a few crashes playing mostly large, huge, & gigantic maps. I did have to allocate more swap space (as I had 512MB ram and probably 512MB of swap) to have it run more reliably, though. I'd recommend perhaps setting swap to 1024MB or more if you only have 512MB of ram. Also, believe it or not, cleaning my computer (especially the CPU and GPU fans) worked wonders (perhaps had more of an impact than increasing the swap, as I did both items at the same time after I experienced a few crashes). This is for the retail version of GCII, not the demo, though. Also, the crashes I experienced where always CTD's and never required hard boots, so there may be something else going on with your system. Try running as few things in the background (especially any virus scanner) and see if it makes any difference.

I have a ATI 9800 pro 128 mbs , everything work great and this card kick ass.

I must admit it happened to me 2-3 time that the game crash and reboot the cpu. But I'm not sure it is the graphic card.
Anyway,
I can run almost all game with all graphics at maximum, even BF2.

I'm sure my 1.5 gig of pc2700 is for something

The only game I had problem with was Far Cry but I didnt care since I didnt liked the game hehe.

I have a 9600 AIW and it works great. Make sure your system is not overheating, that is the typical cause of lockup/crash in a 3d intensive game such as this.

There should not be an issue with a 9800 AIW card and capability to run GC2. I am using a GeForce 4200 without problems. It is more likely that you are having problems with video drivers (dated this year is best), amount of RAM (512 is basically a minimum), or swapfile size (make it 1024 or higher if disk space is not an issue).

I also have a 9800AIW and I even use the tuner when playing. I use the Catalyst 5.13 (many moptnh old) and I have no problems. However, the 9800AIW is notorious to suck a lot of power compared to other cards of it's time and GALCIV is graphic intensive despite being a turn base game. Does other games work fine? Are your power supply at is limits?

Well, I bought the game and it also crashed, so seeing how I was vested in GCII, I did a little tweaking on the video drivers and that helped a little more, but the game was still unstable. It was really frustrating because it was random. I thought it was the direct X drivers because when I disabled the AGP Texture Acceleration, the game became stable. But I have since reenabled it and the game is still stable. One thing I think is helping a great deal is forceing autosave every turn. I have no idea as to why, but it seems to work. As a FYI for you all, my general system specs are as follows:
A8V Asus MB
ATI 9800 AIW
1 GB matched corsair memory
swap file of 2.0GB
