GalCiv II v1.2 BETA 1 now up...

Feeling frisky?

https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=164&AID=118793

For people who are willing to put up with some rough edges, we have made the beta of 1.2 available on Stardock Central (see downloads area) to anyone who has purchased Galactic Civilizations II.

There is a pretty significant list of changes (see the link below) of what's in there.  Everything from a modified battle system, updated AI, user interface enhancements, as well as support for modding with the starts of our example mod.

Mods in GalCiv II are very powerful. The final example mod will actually provide an alternative UI, an alternative set of alien civilizations with an alternative tech tree.  One can imagine people creating total conversion mods where GalCiv II is basically just the engine for whatever sci-fi turn based strategy game you want.

But remember, it's still a beta so there are some rough edges in there. We expect to release another beta next week and then move to a final 1.2. !FROGCARE!

The amount of changes you guys have made in 1.2 is amazing, most of them seem great. Thanks so much for continuously supporting and improving your game!

I love getting my ass handed to me by the AI on Challenging now (well, okay, I appreciate its ability to do so, I don't really "enjoy" it )

Can't wait till 1.2 hits final!

I don't know if it's a minor bug or just bad luck on my side, but upgrading from 1.11 to 1.2beta(009) via Stardock Central didn't work for me, there were too many "String not found" messages (e.g most parts of options menu, on the main map the planet class wasn't displayed ...).
After uninstalling and doing a fresh install everything is nice now (well, as nice as for the others, some strings are still missing, but just a few). Maybe it was because I hadn't installed the first release but was trying to update directly to build 009.

BTW, great work and what a huge ammount of improvements. Thank you!

I'm looking forward to this release. GalCiv II has the potential for a vibrant modding community that'll infuse the game with new life. Another thing that I'd like to see are enhanced diplomatic negotiations. As of now, there really isn't much to do as far as agreements go. Alliances are just so... binding. Some examples are mutual defense pacts, non-aggression pacts, sharing intelligence, etcetera. Lastly, I've found it virtually impossible to persuade a rival civilization to give one of its planets up for anything. Not even for one of my planets that is superior in every way imaginable. An explanation for this thickheaded stubbornness would be greatly appreciated.

One last thing that has been gnawing at me for some time now. When editing a civilization's attributes, the changes appear permanent, and even erase previous attributes instead of adding on to them. For example, when I tried increasing the loyalty of the Yor by +10, it eliminated the innate loyalty bonus of the Yor. It remains this way and I have been unable to reverse this unwanted effect or effectively reset the changes I've made. Feedback?

People the bug thread for 1.2[b] can be found here > https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=251&AID=118800#916953

Please try and keep them all together as its much easier for the devs to only have to read one thread.

Thanks

Greetings to all,

I just wanted to add my thanks to the GalCiv2 people for making an incredible game and supporting it so solidly.
I now face (yet another) sleepness night, searching (and fortunately for us all) finding what Computer Gaming World calls the TGE, Transcendental Gaming Experience.

I read the list of changes and I am impressed, especially with the strong support for mods.

Thanks

SD Central is not working for me at all- it is hanging at the loading of Cargo_40x for some reason, and my DL speed drop to nothing.

@Frogboy: Where is the download link? I've been through the whole sight, checked every link listed. I can't find it?! Am I missing something? I'd appreciate your help. Thanks.

You have to use Stardock Central.

Thanks Frogboy! I guess I'm just blind!

You're not blind, I also went through the same search for hours and hours with no help from anyone no one said that you had to checkmark the bottom in stardock where it says Show pre-release version and then click on the games section in stardock.

Stardock Central ( which ususlly works well ) seems to get the "files to download" list normally. Then it starts to send the changed files. It sends a tiny bit then a countdown message. comes up saying "waiting 3 (-2-1) seconds". Then it sends another little bit and then another "waiting ..." message.

The net result is currently < 1 byte per second. I use Stardock Central all the time and have never seen this before

This on a Cable modem.

Anyone have a clue ?

I was having the same problem as Elrikk, until I

1) Refresh the server list
2) select US-1 from the new server list

then download work as per normal

Gotta say by far the best improvement yet is in ship creation where hovering the cursor over the icons of things added onto the ship now tells you what it is. I can't tell you how many times I've removed stuff thinking it was older technology only to find it was new. It just makes upgrading a lot easier when trying to figure out what needs replacing and what doesn't, thanks guys.

Now maybe we can get a ship design function independent from playing a game. Sometimes you just wanna design a ship without the fuse of a loading up a game.

You have to delete the "custome race" file in documents/mygames/galciv2. There will be one for every reace you've modified, so either delete them all, or open them with Wordpad to find out which is which.

But race picks do override the innate bonuses of the species you're playing as.

Awesome upgrade. However, when I ALT-TABbed to the desktop and then back to the game, all my Transport ships took the models of the Freighters. It didn't really alter the game much, but it was just weird.

How do I remove this thing. I have crashed every game since I installed it.

2 possibilities:
- if you have enabled automatic archive when downloading a new version, then you can restore the associated archive
- you uncheck the "show prerelease version" and yoiu should be able to donload the latest non-beta version.
