Just an idea.

Hi. I dont post very often unless i am having a problem with a game and also in other forums people can be rude too. But my idea was like have a set of unique technologies that cant be researched like techs left from the arnor or dreadlords. Maybe like offer special buildings that are better than a normal one or offer other unqiue things or special weapons or increases abilities etc. Its similar to the techs u get if ur netrual or good or evil but u can get these techs by other ways such as colonizing a planet that may have beeen an pre civ world or finding an asteroid anomoly and etc. Balancing u would have to do carefully cause u dont want one civ to get it all the time and become super powerful and on a plus side if u set it so that the luck ability affects this it can make choosing the luck ability a bit more worthwhile. Well i am off to go play galciv2 now i havent played in awhile which is weird cause this game rocks

You can't balance something like this, because of the random nature of events. However, I like the sound of the idea, and I *think* it can be done. All it needs is to make a tech which has the pre-req of the tech ahead of it, and then offer it as an anomaly, so you can have a seperate tech line.

Haven't read Cari's modding guide in detail about anomalies yet, but I think it can be done. Planet colonisation I'm not sure about.

Maybe you perceive people as rude when the real problem is that you're illiterate.

EDIT: Hey, leave the guy alone. Some people can be rude here (including me).

So anyway I'm trying to do the tech, and I'll reply if it works.

This would qualify as rude

Why? Because people don't have the patience to read poor writing?

Anyways, I think it's a neat idea, but it should be a bit common in anomalies. A free non-reachable tech can be pretty cool.

Because not everyone speaks English as their first language.

The guy you quoted look like the typical english person who consider his culture as the center of universe.
Some people think it's naturally for everyone to speak english.
Now ask them to speak another langage and have a perfect writting...
most of them who try in french are horrible and we dont care about it, because we know it's not their first langage.

Sadly, most of english people are rude with non english speaker.
I have no need to speak english where I live and live in north america yes ! (not mexico)

Amen

J'aimerais porter à l'attention que je n'ai jamais eu de problème concernant l'utilisation de mon anglais. C'est sur, il est loin d'être parfait, mais j'ai toujours réussi à me faire comprendre.

I would like to bring to you attention that I never had any problem with my english. Oh sure, it's far from perfect, but I always managed to get myself understood.

(and I think I write english rather better than some anglophones who just don't care about grammar and synthax)

Anyway, we are getting off-topic, aren't we?

The idea would be.. mild, I think. the "super technology" should be something original. not a simply better "farm improvement". but I can't get any idea about a "special" technology

Great, goodluck. This is a fantastic idea that could be done through the xml files.

This is the kind of thing that ruins forums. Some people are new and don't speak English that well. Your asinine remark about his post says more about you than any of his writings every would. Once in a while, get your lazy butt out of cyberspace and learn how to relate to the rest of us please. And don't pollute "our" forum with your negativity. Madcat19 , you name tells me you were a mechtecker, I will help you if I can. Ignore the negative people here. For the most part they are the best group of people in the gaming world. There are a few here we could do without, just like we could have done without during "mechwarriors" heyday.

Peace out everyone, even the jerk. Have a great weekend.

I have to agree somewhat with Wheeloffire at least from the perspective of there being far too many people that simply don't care enough to use correct English. I am not speaking to those for whom it is a second/third etc language. Those cases are usually obvious and understandable. But I continually see those that are simply lazy and do not even attempt to do it correctly. I am personally tired of continuous mispelled words, abreviations like ur, u or prolly, there instead of their and vice versa, shear instead of sheer and many other examples I see everyday. People complain all the time about the education system, but some of this is simply laziness on the part of the speaker and that is inexcusible. I agree that his comment was maybe a little too much, but the idea he is trying to convey is valid.

Ok, just asked Cari on the IRC, and she doesn't think it'll work. The anomaly won't give you a set specific tech, and I doubt the planet will either.

Sorry
