Problem with deleted ship designs

I have noticed that even after I delete everything in the my ships folder sometimes parts linger on. I noticed this after starting a new game having deleted the folder when I saw an old ship design listed in the research screen followed by the needs following techs. Has anyone else noticed anything similar?

If you want to get rid of all your ships, make sure you delete them from both of your ship folders:

My Documents\My Games\Galciv2\Ships
My Documents\My Games\Galciv2\MetaVerse\Ships

CodeCritter a question if you would...

The delete button in the ship designer (F9) does not appear to actually delete the ships. can you enlighten us to the actual use of this button please. is it the same as the 'set homeworld' button as in it doesn't work?

Darth Griffin,

I'm not sure what you mean by the Delete button not working. I just started a new game and designed a ship, hit the Delete button to delete it. It went away. I then exitted the game and restarted it up again. I started a new game and the ship design was not there. I checked my ships folder and the file wasn't there.

The buttons work like this:
Obsolete - Removes the ship from the list for the current game. New games will restore the ship to the list.
Delete - Permanently removes the ship. Also deletes the .xml file for the ship. (The .shipcfg file will get deleted next time the game starts)

If this is not happening for you, please let us know. Thanks

The design will not be completely deleted if you have some existing ships of that design left in the game.
The design actually will be restored if you delete the ships manually and then load that game again.

Strange... But is there any way to delete ships from a past game that you are unlikely to use again through the UI? I made a number of them in a past game that are sort of, well, dumb. Or any way to see these ships before you have the required tech? Sometimes I forget I designed a particularly cool ship and forget what techs I need to get there.

You could use the cheat mode specifically for this. With that you can give yourself all technologies and therefore be able to see all ships that you have the parts for. Thusly you can delete any designs that are surplus to requirements.

I have had problems with deleted designs poping back up later too. Based on what I see above, maybe I just needed to restart the game after deleting the designs? Did I read that correctly? It won't really delete the ships entirely from my system until I exit and restart? I tend to leave the game running for several days at a time and just alt-tab back and forth to windows, so I don't restart between games very often.

Yeah, managing old designs/names is getting to be cumbersome because I make lots of ships (man i love this game). If the plans to release a mini-expansion with ship parts is still active(I hope so), I'd pay extra if it included a viewer/design management utility to see all of my existing designs (and the names I've already used) outside of an active game. Not to actually change the ships, just look at the list, their equipment, and maybe even the models(but models aren't really important to me). Maybe some creative modder with too much free time will come up with something like that. I supose I could write something in VB or ASP to read the XML files and print a list for me, but I'm clueless with the graphics stuff.

Delete the designs in the folders CodeCritter mentioned, if you don't load that game again, they won't reappear.

And you can see them if you click through the techtree. The techs needed for a design will have an entry which
design you could build and whatelse you need to build it.

That works for me.

CodeCritter thanks for the response. It may be that i use variants on an original ship for most of my games? For some reason if i delete the base ship it does not delete from the folder. However as stated this may be because i have used it in the newer versions i still have in the game.. I will check and yell if they do not disappear completely if i remove all versions of it.

Thanks again.

Once you hit the Delete button, that design is removed from the game so it shouldn't pop up again. There is no need to restart the game in order to prevent ships from showing up.

Yes, reloading a saved game will restore the designs in that game. That is so you can still use your ships if you reload the game.

CodeCritter, thanks for reading the posts and responding.

I will have to do some experimentation and see wether I can get it to mess up again or if it was just me messing up. I'll be sure to get specifics if I think I see it happen again.

If you do catch it doing something wierd, try to come up with steps to reproduce it if you can. That will help us to find the cause. Thanks.
