3 new GalCiv II gadgets

Fun for your desktop

You're going to hear the term "gadget" a lot over the next year as Windows Vista gets closer.  Stardock's DesktopX Pro lets you create gadgets that require no additional downloads (not even .NET).

And one of the most popular gadget authors in the community has released three new Galactic Civilizations II gadgets.

The Drive Meter is still constantly accessing my floppy drive - sorry man. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help troubleshoot.

The widget creator said,
I have permission from SD/GCII to create these widgets and use their graphics.

I can understand that they need your permission to use your artwork from the game, but do they also need permission to create widgets with Desktop X? That seems kind of annoying. Do you have the End User License Agreements posted on your website for all your software, so potential purchasers can see what kind of licensing burdens they're obligated under before purchasing the software?

Nice! I'll get the Leader Board so's I can check out our Empire standing at a glance. I like the drive meter, it's pretty cool, I use it without problems all the time.

Blade, he just needed our permission for the graphics.  DesktopX Pro creates gadgets like this. There's no additional permission involved after purchase.

Wouldn't he need permision not only for the GFX but also for the use of the trademarks ?

I have tried to fix the floppy issue several times, i was confident it was fixed. Alas there still seem to be a few machines that cause it to read the floppy. I am working on an update that will HOPEFULLY fix this issue.

As for the permission, it was needed as these graphics are taking directly from the game, they are not graphics I created. Gal-Civ II's interface was designed with DekstopX and so it was simple to pull the graphics from them, but I would not feel good about using others graphics without permission. Its the proper thing to do.

I will be creating some more Gal-Civ II gadgets in the coming months, I have not had the time to fine tune some of them. And I would like them to be released 100% ready for the world.

Enjoy the ones out there, and let me know what you think!
