Lucky?

Are you having any Luck - Pardon the Pun
This was a good atrib in GC 1
And it seemd to work on lower settings in GCII
If you had it you occasionally FOUND Ranger class ships early on Pretty useful
I've been playing on 1.11 fro a while - challenging and NO Luck!
Is it just me

I'm pretty sure that I saw in one of the change logs that you now cannot get a ranger until after a certain number of years, no matter how lucky you are. I guess it's to stop one civ becoming insanely powerful early in the game.

yeah but thats what luck is all about in the later levels of the game by the time you start getting the rangers its useless cause ur own ships are faster and more powerful

i don't know if your thinking about FAR down the road, or you just tech up your warships and hang the other techs, cuss i make use of the precursor ships, they tend to have better guns, some def, and more hitpoints then i usualy dedicate on the reaserch side

hehe, I swear the random events are nothing more than Urban Myths. I've got 17 games logged on metaverse and no telling how many before I started posting them and I've only seen Pirates once and no other (not counting those at planet landing).

in galciv 2 i have not found any precourser ships at all they have been reported found by other civs in the game

(sorry about spelling)

Luck also plays a role in whether or not your planets have bonus tiles, and if so what strength and how many...

Ah good ol' Ranger Class, I remember finding a few in the old GC1 then smiting my enemies with em, good point about not seeing em in GC2...haven't seen them or the evil space egg...donno if thats a good thing or not......

in my last game, a race (cant remember which one, think it was the Yor) got at least 5 rangers in the first years, at least that was the number of rangers I had to destroy They paired them in some intimidating fleets

True. Getting an "I win" event isn't much fun.

yeah but thats what luck is all about

What, getting a chance to just end the game thanks to a random event? Wow, that's great. Next time I'll just reboot my computer in the middle of the AI's turn and say, "HA! I WIN!" It's about as challenging.

I must agree with the OP, it does at least appear that luck has been toned down to almost nothing since 1.1. I am on I think my 3rd or 4th game using lucky races as well as being universalist and I have not even had one of those corvets let alone any rangers.

Actually I got 4 rangers in the space of one year the other day. You know what they say "Better lucky than good!"

On that note though, the first time one of the other races found some corvettes the game went CTD!

Yes I forwarded results to SD for review. Yes, I used the rangers as planetary defense, as my ships were already more powerful due to allied trades.

I see pirates every game also, although they are not as obtrusive as before, but I have the lucky button checked so hey.

Good hunting

Suralle...

How do you see pirates??? do they have a special Icon, a home planet??? In all the games I have played (and I have played many), I have never seen them. I hear of them. I know various races are at war with them, but I have never seen them.... the closest I got is when escaped prisoners stole some ships and attacked on of my worlds.

Pirates are just roving fleets. I saw one once, it just suicided on my starbase.

You are more likely to get precursor ships if you are behind militarily.

I got a precursor ranger in trade with the Yor on my 10th turn. Or maybe it was my 11th. I don't remember. But it was the only reason I'm as powerful as I am. I wasn't even close to its tech level. With it, I destroyed the Yor.(That's one heck of a way to say thanks. )

I figured out how to take screens now so I can post a screenshot if you want.

Note: its like my 200th turn or something like that. Now the ranger is obsolete and outdated. I'm only keeping it since it's rare.
