Trading Alliance Tech

I am sure there is something I am overlooking here but I had a case where I wanted to have an alliance with a race that did not have the tech yet so I gave it to them. I still could not do it. It would not even show up on the list.

I'm not sure, but I think that they have to be "friendly" or possible "warm" to you in order to make an alliance. Try giving them really good deals in trade to where it is better for them than it is you. After a while, the alliance option will open.

(This is from personal experience. Nothing said here is "official" so please don't get mad if it doesn't work.)

I am going by memory but I am pretty sure they were at least "warm" to me. We had been trading for some time but they had simply not researched alliances yet. I will go back and look but I thought if alliances were available, it showed up but they just might not take you up on it if you offered.

No, you need to be "Close", which is one above "Friendly" and is very hard indeed to get to.

I don't think that's accurate. I've been able to ally with people who I'm not close with, and who do not have the alliance tech.

I was so ungodly powerful though that perhaps they just allied with me out of fear?

Anyway, ended that game alot more quickly than either culture or war would have.

it depends on the difficulty setting and alignment... those closer to your alignment seem to be easier to ally with at friendly or warm
