Suggestion for ship design management

(This really ought to be addressed)

I find it annoying how I have to delete my old ships designs from my last game. So I came up with this idea: have an option when saving a ship to make it usable in your current game only.
If it could be tied in with the save file then it could be deleted when you were done with the game. It just seems like a logistical nightmare to keep track of all my ships (and naming ships M 3imIII 2BephII Gar 2aS FAS gets tiring after a while...)

I think a lot of us have just learned coping strategies.

Try designing blank hulls for every size/type (i.e. constructor hull, freighter hull, large hull, huge hull, etc.). Save them as, "Standard ___________" (again, that would be "Standard Constructor," or "Standard Freighter," or "Standard Battleship"). Now, every game, you upgrade those standard designs with whatever state-of-the-art weaps/def/eng/rng equipment makes sense in that game's context, and save the upgraded design without the "Standard" in the title, adding "mk 1" to the end (So, "Constructor mk1" "Freigther mk1" "Battleship mk1"). As tech advances, you can keep upgrading the basic design as the "__________ mk 2", the "____________ mk 3", etc. In subsequent games, you can delete those designs (permanently), and still have the base "Standard" hulls. Rinse, repeat. Every game, you upgrade the Standards to suit your needs.

Yes I can cope too, however the point of this post was to fix the problem and not just work around it.
