Who did we give the gift to?

If the humans gave many of the other races the hyper-drive technology, then why do you not know about them in the game till you run across them again? Its like "Hello, here is the technology that will allow you to travel among the stars, see you later"

Or why are some civs pissed at you from the start? I mean you gave them a free tech!

One would think that if we gave them something that would enable spaceflight that someone would send a message back to Earth, saying that we found aliens. And why are there none of these scout ships that traveled around and gave the hyper-drive technology to these other races?

What other stuff may we have to make this THING you brought work right it seem to malfunction when we put on our ship, are you tring to kill us I knew these guys were untrustworthy from the moment he poped on the screen and stareted flapping there lips..

As the opening screen says, Terran's shared the scematic for the drive.
As in drawings, blueprints.

Probably sent out in probes of some sort, since direct communication is not possible until the Universal Translator is researched.

And many of the races, like he Drengin, may consider the Terrans more of a threat if they had tech that the Drengin did not have. Maybe even more so if the Terrans were so secure, or stupid, in their knowledge that they were not afraid to share it.

You know all the other races exist but your contact was through slow gate technology. True trade and relations can only be acomplished when you make a more direct connection to them by a hyperdrive equiped ship. Also some races didnt get it directly from the terrens, so you dont nessesaraly have direct contact.

Or something like that... its just a game sheesh

although... how did we trade them tech when we couldnt talk to them cause we hadn't invented universal translator.....

A better question: Why in hell would we give it to them to begin with. The back story on that would have to involve some misguided traitor. (a radical liberal no doubt)

Anyway they don't act like they have never heard of us. They are just a bit surprised to see us in their neck of the woods.
