Need help! :(

Ok, so this is my first post. I got this game I guess.. 2 weeks ago or so. I've been trying to have fun with it, and it's a really great game, but theres been some problems that just bug the heck out of me. Like, the secret police project seems like just a crappy version of a virtual reality center, and the galactic guide book is broken, it doesnt add survey ability to ships already on screen or reduce the bc cost of survey module or decrease the size of it. Does anybody know if these are going to be fixed? Other than that, I have performance problems as well. I have the collectors edition of the game, but I can't get the collectors content enabled. I download it, and it says I need to activate the serial #, but it never asks me for it and at the end of the download it says the collectors content has been enabled. I've also had the lucky ranger event twice now, and the corvette event once. My game crashed on one ranger event and one corvette event, and I can't figure out why. Also, I can't alt tab, when I alt tab back into the game it's just a black screen, and after 15 mins or so it says galciv has an error and must close. And then finally, my game just crashed randomly with no events or something, which was kinda the tipping point. I just figured out how to open my debug file, so if anybody wants to go over this and help me figure out what is wrong.. I'm sure I have the latest drivers, and my page file is like 1768 mb's or something. My internet connection has been spotty, I have cable but sometimes it drops down to 76kb/sec, seen people post about the internet and version 1.11, so.. Anyway, looking for some help

forgot to add, I've also tried to reinstall galciv, it said I couldnt access the install file in add/remove progams panel, so I manually deleted all the files. However, my settings like the attribute points I changed on the races where still there (i want to change those back but cant remember defaults) so obviously I didn't get everything, even though i deleted everything in the totalgaming folder..

video drivers are from 2003 - thats too old and is probably causing most of the problems. you can update them from nvidias website.

i remember something about a problem with the lucky rangers - it thinks its being fixed for next patch or something - cant quite remember what i read but its a known bug

Also, I can't alt tab, when I alt tab back into the game it's just a black screen,

After you update drives, you can also try to run game in window mode. This way you can safely alt-tab as much as you like. Just change the game shortcut to (your_disk)

(your_game_folder)\GalCiv2.exe window

uh huh well thanks for the advice.. cant seem to figure out how to update the drivers though, cant find which cards i have specifically, the names dont seem to match up with the two i got, especially the nvidia one, gives me options for an nforce4 or a geforce with windows professionalx64, i tried that one and it says i dont have the right windows, but the only other windows is windows XP and i got professional, and anyway, i thought i had a geforce 4? =\

It sounds like you have Windows XP professional, that counts as XP, so you should download the drivers for Windows XP/2000 on the nvidia site, I believe. I think there might be one set of drivers for all their cards, but if not, and there isn't a GeForce 4 option, you might try under GeForce MX, you'll find the GeForce 4 cards there.

They r universal drivers, IE- Will work on geforce 1 on up

its at www.nvidia.com under drivers.. couldnt find drivers for my creative sound card, guess its to old =\

I updated this way but all I received was that the latest drivers were not logo tested by Windows Professional XP and as a result my game still crashed while playing. I have still not had the problem solved (see my post "Graphics problem"). In fact I am quite disappointed in the game now having read the huge variety of bugs and problems that people seem to be having.
