Work to be done to the UI in future patches

1. Please, oh, please, make the two planet lists sticky. So that when I check my planets at
the end of every turn and then I go to the planet to make changes, please alow the planet list
NOT to start at the top again. As it is, change, and scroll from the top, change and scroll
from the top, etc.

One thing that helps my finger is that you don't have to use mouse clicks to scroll, you can
use the down cursror on the keyboard or your mouse's wheel. Still annoying. Scroll, scroll,
scroll.

Here is another trick to lessen scrolling. Suppose that you are building mainly one kind of
ship--colonizing, attack, troop, whatever. I create my new troop ship. And I then name it "Troop whatever"
but now it is at the bottom of about 20 ship types. Everytime I want to build it, I have to scroll, scroll, scroll.
Instead name it "AA Troop Whatever" and it will be at the top of the list. It's what they do in the yellow pages.

2. It would be nice if the GNI was up to date. I do quick builds the turn, set up new construction,
and the GNI at the start of the next turn is out of date.

3. Ok. On our planets, we can create a list of projects to build. If any of you played "Stars!" earlier,
you may remember than you could create standard lists of what to build and in what order.
We should be able to create a list that allows me to build say two factories, two enetertainment centers.
The name of the build list should then be an option to choose (particularly useful when you are
doing a colony rush)--assuming you like to start the same way on most plantets.

Now I do admit that I don't use governors.

Let me add.

4. Allow new ships to launched from the GNI. I know there are times when you may not want to do that.
You may need to check your population before send off the troop ship or colonizer.

5. let us scroll the galactic map with the keyboard cursor buttons or at least let us set keys to do that with. i get arthritis from using my wrist to scroll across the galaxy with the mouse.

To me, the absolute most crucial UI problem is the placement of the "Turn" button, and the fact that it is active even if you are on the planet screen. Overshoot just a little while mousing down to click "Done," and your turn starts going in the background. The fact that it is easy to hit by mistake when using the mini-map is bad, but the fact that it can be hit while in the Planet Manager is unforgiveable from a UI design standpoint.

The UI also does very badly at allowing you to follow what is happening if more than one enemy colony defects to you in the same turn. If you want to start shipbuilding on the first new colony, you're out of luck, because as soon as you hit "Build Ship," the UI will whisk you away to the planet screen for the second new colony; and good luck finding your way back to the first one if you're playing on a Huge galaxy with lots of stars (that's another thing: Especially onec you start getting colonies defecting to you, the "Next/Prev" buttons become completely useless, as your colony list may as well be completely random by that point).

I agree with you about the "turn" button. Several times again, I hit it by accident.

My bad.

All noted, but FYI...

1. This will be fixed in 1.2

5. I suggest using the mini map, but feel free to use SHIFT + Arrow Keys to pan the map. Also, zoom out to tactical beforehand to cut the trip in half

If you can fix #1, my index finger on the mouse will be happy.

Perhaps a turn confirmation button? Leave the button as it is, but once clicked it switches to a pair of buttons - confirm and cancel, with cancel being in place of the original turn button (also make it optional on the main options page) thus if it is accidentally clicked you can override it and if you click it on purpose just hitting Enter will make it continue...

that sounds more like a hassle to me though.

What we could do is put in an option "Disable Turn Button in Sub-Screens" so the button will only be clickable on the main game window. Would this fix everyones issues?

that could help, although theres still the issue of when you click on the bottom corner of the minimap, you have a tandency to accidentially click the turn button. its just a gripe of my own though.

I did it twice tonight trying to point at the bottom of the mini-map.

Yes, my fault.
