Is there a way to make the AI more agressive, or "how do you avoid getting bored"?

My problem, which is most probably my own doing, is that I'm a munchkin.
I think it's the best way to describe it, yes...

I didn't play too many games yet (newly bought) but I already see that just like in MOO2 I'm going to research everything possible before attacking.
The problem is that even with all the technologies, it takes a huge amount of time to conquer the galaxy. So eventually I give up and go for either alliance or tech victory...

Now if during the game the AI would force me to fight and conquer it, then by end game I'll have a reasonable task in front of me

So what I'm really asking here is: "How do you play the game so it'll be interesting until the very end, in which you conquer the planet of the last victim?"

Do you start the wars yourself (personally I always want the research just that other tech before attacking)
Does the AI attack you? (They seem awfully friendly to me though...)
Are you just very patient?
Something else?

(FYI, I'm playing on tough, and I don't find the game too easy)

you could set the relations in the beginning to hostile, that should make a war much more likely, but I haven't tried this yet.

Don't build any type of military units (but be prepared to do so at a moments notice), and once the AI thinks it can take you out it will certainly try.

I've never had a single game where some race (usually of a different alignment) didn't decide that my planets would look better with their flag on it, even when I'm going down the diplomacy/influence path...

How I play depends on who I'm playing as. If I'm evil, I'll play agressive, and I'll never be out of war. If I'm neutral or good, I'll try to build relationships with the other races, and only go to war if someone attacks me (or an ally).

The AI will be very cautious about attacking someone with a bigger military than them. If you want to get into more fights, just don't militarise as fast (still get the techs of course, just don't build as many ships). This may sound like giving your opponents an advantage, but remember that you can allocate those resources elsewhere... Besides, being the underdog in a war is more fun.

Alternatively, ally with a weak race. That's going to get you into a fight pretty quickly! Especially minors. And then you get to feel good about invading another race's territory.

One thing about Gal Civ is that you really shouldn't be researching every single tech in a game. In all the time I've been playing it, I haven't finished the tech tree once. I've only got the end of one of the weapon trees a single time, and by that time I was already in mopping up mode.

I attack early and often right out of the gate. It is the only way I have found to survive on the highest level, when the AI is building multiple embasssies on every planet and has Invention Matrix by the time I build my first military transports.

I do everything i can to get 3 planets that are some-what close together. Then I make one of them my economic location, one of them my influence/happiness location, and finally one is my military location. (If possible this one is towards the middle of the map.)
Then I create factories on it and start making cheap and fast fighters. I update them as often as possible. Then once I have about 200 or so, I go on a rampage killing anything and everything until I have space superiority.

Note: This strategy doesn't always work out as planned for the higher difficulty settings. Once, when my fleets left my military planet, the Drengin moved in and tried to take it. They won. So I kind of cheated and loaded my last save which was two turns earlier. I know, I'm a disgrace.

I dod this in a lot of my recent games accidently. i was play testing something that required everyone to gang up on me, so i set relations for all races to be at war with me. I forget to change it back and this setting persisited, I didn't notice this but it made no difference at all.

This surprisingly has no effects at all, because early game, all everyone has is just scouts and colony ships with 0 attack. After a while, one by one they will offer peace, sometimes you can even counter offer for some cash or tech.

As far as I can figure , early game they have the "too busy to fight a war" or something tag, so they offer peace eventually.

Even now, I'm too lazy to change all the relations back to the default unknown, so all my games sytart with me at war with everyone officially, but as i said it makes no difference at all.

Don't believe me ? try it. You can do the same old colony rush or whatever you prefered opening straegy is with no change at all.

I think of my next ttech and wonder how I could use it to destroy my enemies.

Hi!
How do you play the game so it'll be interesting until the very end, in which you conquer the planet of the last victim?

Crowded game with close proxiity (medium all abundant, or large all common, all AIs, game on though+), don't trade with them, don't research much of diplomacy, play as evil. Guaranted fight through whole game.
