Is it possible to break an alliance?

Is it possible to break an alliance? And if it is then how do I do it?

You can break alliances with Major races, not minors. Its in the Foreign Diplomacy Screen (or what ever its called) and replaces the box "Trade Embargo."

This is off topic, but why can't you break alliances with Minors? Is that just an oversight on the Dev's part, or is it deliberate? Personally, I think it's pretty stupid.

I'm pretty sure it's an oversight. Seems to me that it should work the same way as breaking with a major (replacing trade embargo).

One slightly cheaty way to break an alliance is to pay another race to attack the minor, then refuse to assist them.

this was a difficult thing for me as well since it is not covered in the manual. this thread is the place i found this bit of information. i kinda expected the option to be in the same place as where i negotiate to get treaties but that is me.
