Retail box sets screwed for updating?

Seems like it to me

Having the retail edition, there is no sig.bin for me. I activated the serial, but it never once asked me for an email address to associate it to. So I download the patch, put in my serial, and... it'll never work now, because there's no email address.

And where am I exactly supposed to download a full version using my serial? Not on Stardock Central, I'm on the program now and there is no GalCiv 2 listed. And the download on the website requires me to shell out another $50.

breathe in.. breathe out.. e-mail the support at SD.. and wait a little.. they will handle it tomorrow

Does the full version require you to install their windows blinds stuff (programs and windows oddities... lack of better words) and such ?

Wrong. I only wrote this post after they sent me a dismissive automated response.

That doesn't sound like StarDock. But I'm not going to argue that. No, retail box sets aren't screwed for updating because I have a retail box myself, and everything works great. You probably just missed a step somewhere (I'll admit, the registration process can be a little bit screwy). Go into Stardock Central, go to the Tools menu then Settings, in the box on the left, select "Games" under the Register heading, pull GalCiv 2 from the dropdown menu and enter your serial number. After that you should be able to update/download the game through SD Central.

Hope that helps ya bud.

Its weird, on my retail box I only had the Special Edition code. If you put that into the page that lets you download the Special Edition .exe, (https://www.galciv2.com/CollectorsEdition/)

Then go to the Stardock page that lets you request your cd key be emailed to you (https://www.stardock.com/support.asp), voila! A cd key is emailed to your inbox you registered this forum account with!

Strange, but it worked for me....

I don't have the internet at home and after installing the 1.11 patch and restarting the game it asked me for an e-mial address and my code. I used my work e-mail (which I use for this site) and the code. I followed the steps to register by e-mail and sent it to Stardock yesterday. Still no reply yet. I installed the 1.0X patch ok.

I got the retail box (collectors edition). When I registered the serial number on the website they gave me a new serial number (with no dashes) on screen that I can use to get the updates / patches etc. I had to activate the game once when i downloaded and installed v1.1. It asked for an email address and the (new) serial number. That was it.

I dont use Stardock Central. I only have 1 Stardock game and find it easy enough to update to official releases with the "update" button on the game itself.
