Custom Ship Icon Blank

The other night, I was playing around a bit as humans. I had recently deleted all my custom ships so that I didn't have so much clutter, and was therefore designing new ones as the game went along.

First, I designed a colony ship. I started with the transport base hull that looks pretty much just like the front command center of the other base hull. I then extended it to about four times it's length with various parts, creating something reminiscent of 2001: A Space Oddessey. Saved it, built one, no problem.

Next, I researched ion drives, and upgraded my design. Opened the shipyard, selected my previous ship, and hit edit. I deleted the old engines, drug the view to the back of the model with my mouse, and added the new engines. I changed the name slightly, and hit save. Then I noticed the icon was not right -- only about half the ship was shown in the icon!

So next time I upgraded it, I made sure the ship was roughly centered in the view when I hit save, and it displayed normally.

However, my scout ship didn't -- it was completley blank!

So the icon generation is a bit off. This is in 1.11; I had never seen this problem previously.

there is a strange thing like that in the demo, but I'm attributing it to the fact that the demo doesn't separate the custom made ships into the correct hull styles while it does that in the game.

I have this problem with some of my ships as well. In fact one of the core ships does this for me. (I believe the "missile boat")

Heh had this happen to me as well where the icon goes either blank or garbled. Though for me in my games, first time it happened was with core freighter, the icon rather than showing the races freighter option was a cropped image of a planet side terrain. Second time it happened was a few days ago with the Star Avenger core ship, this time the icon seemed to be a badly garbled picture of a trade route graphic.

Despite the icon being bad the ship constructed well and still appeared in game fine.

I've tried to reproduce this and am having trouble.

If you save and reload the game, does the icon image still look garbled or blank? If so, please send you saved game to [email protected]. I'd like to take a look at it.

Also, if you wouldn't mind posting a screenshot or sending it along with the saved game, please do.
