Non-functioning Engine Parts

Ever wanted to put an engine on a ship for aesthetics reason but run out of room to do it?

Just add the lines in this text file to gc2types.xml file in /data/english and you will be able to add fake engines to your ships for aesthetic purposes.

It is great for balancing engines on each side of the ship when you can only place one real engine. Even more fun is to create super engines by placing many engines together, like this:

Sweet ship

I've switched over to using a "stub" hull, attaching functional pieces shrunk down as small as necessary to hide them inside an aesthetic shell, then covering them with a non-functional hull graphic that visually hides the functional components completely inside. This way I can use B5, Star Wars, Star Trek and other ship models without marring their visual style with incongruous visual elements from the functional components.

Man, I wish my ships looked anything like that. They look like somebody took a china ship and painted on it. Stupid graphics thingie.

so, this is with Kryos hull mod?

Kryos hull mod is not needed for the fake engines, but I did create the above ship with it. The hull mod is highly recommended.

ive tried to do this already, but when i added the "fake" engines to the game, all the gfx for the "real" engines were removed from the "engines" category and placed into the structure category along with the fake engines. i will check it out. thanx

EDIT: i did something simular to this and Kryo's hull mod. it adds the game weapons as eye candy.

Thank you both - Citizen Kaesar and socially hazardous!

I've added these to my system, and I'm already on overload! This makes the looks of builds much better; more even in appearance. These two additions opens up a whole new way of building ships; just with what's available, let alone what new hulls and jewelry might come later. Definitely two keepers! Thanks!

Kaesar, I have a request for this mod. Please e-mail me at [email protected]

Okay. That ship design is incredible. Please please PLEASE upload it somewhere as a downloadable ship.

I'm quite fond of the arrow-head design, lol.

Huge hulls look so much better with fake guns on them. I've always found it silly that my 3 kilometer long behemoths only took 3 guns (4 for Black Hole Eruptors, but still...). It's better to stick on a couple tiny Doom Rays to function and put them in a line of 20 nonfunctioning Doom Rays, much more realistic.

Port batteries, fire as you bear!

The Omega Mod 1.0 has files are copies of hull and components renamed as jewelry files. The copies (hull, components weapons ) will then be added to the extras in the shipbuild.[link="http://library.galciv2.com/index.aspx?m=302"]http://library.galciv2.com/index.aspx?m=302">Link

To see some screen shots of the ship I made with this mod go to kenwebb's Omega Shipyard[link="https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=162&AID=116353#940520"]https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=162&AID=116353#940520">Link
