Noob Alliance question...

Ok I'm playing my first game of GCII and am trying to form an alliance with an opponent (well all opponents just to end it). I managed to get an alliance with 3 of the 5 opponents by first giving them the Alliance tech. The other two I have given the Alliance tech to but Alliance does not show up as a diplomatic option... What am I doing wrong? Also is there any way to search these forums?

Search is below the Recent Posts Panel

In order for you to form an alliance your relations with the race need to be at Close check the foregin relations panels.

You do not need to give them the alliance tech in order to form an alliance. You have to have a 'Close' relationship (sometimes they'll let you do it with 'warm', I'm not 100% sure how exactly it is determined).

What you've experienced up to now, I suspect, is that gifting the Alliance tech has been enough to improve your relationship with the race to the required level.

You can improve relations most often with the diplomacy improving techs, or Planetary Invasion!!

Give them your Trade Goods like Diplomatic Translators (if the Torians don't already have it,) Harmony Crystals and all the other goods.

Actually, only has to be friendly. I think that may be a recent change, as I thought it had to be close, but I did a double take on my last game when I realized that I had everyone at friendly, and I was able to get alliances with all of them.

Strangely I think this is a bug in the game where they don't display close. Don't know why it's annoying and confusing. Just think that if it says friendly and you can propose an alliance that you must be close.
