How old are you?

How old are you?

I found some very interesting posts and observations on this forum.

I'm curious how old are the people hanging here and playing this game.

27 right here...

Peace!

I'm 56, til May.

1st "adult", "strategy" game: D-Day (for you young guys, on a mapboard, on a table). Risk actually came later. I think I was 12, so my pal's game must have been brand new.

1st personal computer: TRS-80, Mdl 1. I actually thought I was moving slow on the subject, at the time. I really should know a lot more about it than I do, by now. And, yes, I bought it mainly to play games.

The big advantages of being an older gamer are that you can afford to get your wife and kid(s) their OWN computer, and wire the house for a faster Internet connection. The disadvantages (for gaming only) - 1) sometimes they like to do other, more active things, 2) sometimes your cariologist likes YOU to do other, more active things!

What I can't understand about this thread is why it is in Off-Topic. I think it is all very pertinent for Game Talk.

I am 256! Why do you want to know my real age anyway?

25 and not a bit wise yet. 150% crazy. Most of the time I feel younger, except when waking up in the morning with a hangover

Just turned 47 this month. Luckily, my wife is rather understanding about my playing the game. She even got it for me for my birthday.

I'll give you a hint it starts with a 2 and ends with a 6

I'd be hesitant to admit it, but people are pretty shameless about it....

I'm 14 and livin'in the Bay.

14. Wow. I seriously didn't know people over 30 played video games. No offence, people

Actually no one really cares all that much, and certainly you're free to lie or not respond at your choice. It just helps sometimes to put people’s posts in some kind of context. I’ve seen some younger players whose posts seem exceptionally mature, but otherwise most folks are willing to cut some slack to younger posters if at times their maturity level seems lacking. On the other hand being young has no monopoly on immature posts. I do find that I seem to naturally have more in common with folks my own age, and I appreciate the fact that there does seem to be a reasonable number of folks my age playing the game.

Since this thread has come back, time for me to re-up. 38 now with one more offspring than before. Which may well disprove the whole 'with age comes wisdom' thing... I love them both dearly, but man, it cuts into my game time something fierce.

I like drrider's take, sort of like carbon-dating yourself:

1st adult strategy game: Avalon Hill's Panzer Leader, closely followed by uncountable other WWII titles. I really miss the ability to set up a paper board with hundreds or thousands of cardboard unit counters and burn up an entire weekend rewriting history.

1st personal computer: Apple IIe (best friend at the time had the TRS 80). Wizardry was the absoute bomb.

Spore. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherfrakker in the galaxy. Accept no substitutes.

27 here.

First personal computer: Schneider CPC with a wonderful green monochrome screen.
First strategy game: If I only could remember... Among the oldest I remember really playing are Civilization, Master of Orion, Master of Magic and Panzer General.

You're 42? Why, you don't look a day over 41 years, 4 months and 30 days.
