Babylon 5 roundup

Good work by Coplann, Vorlone, and welcome robalis666.

It seems we now have ourselves some Centari! Though I've not play tested them to see how well they work...

I think I’m gonna get started on a new B5 themed Tech. Tree; if there is anyone who would be willing to give some ideas/ get started on it, I’d love the help...

Weapons:
Plasma [replaces kinetic]
Laser [replaces beam]
Missile [replaces missile]

Also, I want to have at least 2 types of propulsion: thrust and gravity. Ships with gravity drive would get a bonus to range, as well...

well in a sense, a b5 mod would be able to use all of the current beam/missile/mass driver stuff. with adapted names. because most b5 ships used an assortment of weapons, such as missiles, railguns, and beam weapons.

as for propulsion, the high end propulsion systems were usually based on a hyperspace tap to provide energy.

My advice would be to add a whole new branch info the tech tree, which deals with Power Plants, and have the weapons available to you based on this.

take a look at www.b5tech.com it holds some useful info.

Sounds fun... I wish I could contribute, but I wouldn't know where to start..... I haven't a programming/modding skill, but let me know how I can help.

sounds like a plan, we got more then enough ships(of course more the merrior) to make a mod now. Go for it guys ! IF u need a beta tester just ask

There is still a lot of work with the models till we have all needed ship models.

Before start modding the xml files i would wait for patch 1.2 and start collecting Information & graphics needed.
I think Stardock will do a lot make modding more comfortable.

Some ideas/things we need for Total Conversion:

- Babylon 5 Themed Tech Tree as Andrew said. But i don't know what possibilities we have at this point (1.11) I read there a some problems with race specific techs because stealing/trading techs makes all trees available for each race.

- Diplomacy Dialogues, starting abilities & techs for each race (major and minor races)

- We have/could convert models for Earth Alliance, Centauri, Narn, Minbari, Drakh, Vorlone, Shadows and League of Non-Aligned Worlds. At this time we can only have 5 hullsets + the non playable (Dread Lords). Lets see if we have more with 1.2.

- Perhaps we can make all 8 races playable with their own designs. Or another idea: EA, Centauri, Narn, Minbari and Drakh playable. Vorlone & Shadows nonplayable (or optional) and put all the minor races in an alliance together with the League Designs.

- A huge Map of the Babylon 5 Universe and some smaller ones for scenarios (Narn Centauri oder Earth Minbar War for example).

Sounds awesome. I'm watching the whole series right now. (love Netflix )

I don’t know that we need race specific tech trees. Given that physics remains constant in the universe, and knowledge is the only difference between different species’ technologic prowess, only one tree ought be necessary. Remember: humans are able to (by the end of the run) build ships on the scale of the Vorlons...

What I would like to see is a ship building style open only to alliances. Say when the Humans and the Mimbari get together, suddenly the whitestar and the Excalibur are available...

Well... that's a million years into the future. I doubt a GalCiv game would/should run quite that far.

That would pretty much be the only combination of races that has alliance-only ships, though... except maybe Minbari and Vorlons for White Stars.

For me personally Drakh or LonaW ships are not that important but I definitely would like to have Vorlon and Narn ships in the game.
In my current game I play Drengin with Shadow ships, against Earth Force, Torians with Minbari ships and Yor with Centauri ships.
Needless to say that I got the Yor to ally with me as soon as possible.

@Star Adder: You can replace the stock civ pictures with different ones, namely from B5. All you need is a photo program that will save as .png, then import most any picture, edit size (comparable to the ones in use), and save them. Then you can either rename them to the different races, or using an xml editor you can change to settings and names. I've been working on this myself, and so far no problems trading them out.

Errrr, I know. Actually I just uploaded the pics I use into the library section(Londo, G'Kar, Kosh2, Neroon and Sheridan).
I was talking about the Vorlon ships there...

For the mixed ships (white star and excalibur, etc etc) just add to ethical aglinement tech... if you choose evil, you get the shadow/terran mixed hybird ship with associated armor/weaps, if neutral, you get excalibur, if good, the whitestar. Might be easier that way, and makes sense, really.

Neo Tech Gaming which created the original Star Trek Total Conversion Mod for Galactic Civilizations is currently working on the Babylon 5 Total Conversion Mod. Right now it's only in begining stages, but once 1.2 is out, actual work on converting Babylon 5 over can start. http://www.neotechgaming.com/forums/index.php?showforum=392

Well, if they gave the correct error message, I probably wouldn't have said it. "Sorry, the link that brought you to this page seems to be out of date or broken," it said. Anyway... looking forward to the TC.

I'll have them look into allowing non-registered guests to see the forum and all the threads. Right now we are working on simply getting together what will be changed.

-- Political Parties --
Should we change the current bonuses or keep them the same. How about adding a Facist governement, or maybe one based on the concept of a dictatorship with the Night Watch.

-- Tech Tree --
I agree with changing the techs as to represent the different types of weapon systems they had in the series. However, creating race specific techs is out of the question. As for Good Vs. Evil techs, we can change those around a little. Following the ways of the Vorlons is similiar to following the Good path, while following the ways of the shadows is the Evil path.

-- Ships --
So far there are quite a few models for ships. I'm not sure about pre designing to many ships. RIght now we need to decide what techs should be required for each hull type.

Government/political party options based on the B5 universe would definitely be a plus, IMO. (Don't suppose it would be possible to implement the Drazi system of electing the ruling party? )

As for bonuses... I'd say definitely change the race-specific bonuses, but not really sure on the political party bonuses... I guess the latter would depend on how much you change the parties themselves.

I've read elsewhere on this forum about an idea of changing the concept of good vs. evil to one order vs. chaos for a Babylon 5 mod, since that's a big issue in the series itself... perhaps you may want to consider doing something like that.

EDIT (off-topic): Incidentally, is anyone else having trouble opening this thread in Firefox?

Anyone can view the NeoTech Gaming forum now. It seems the permissions were set wrong by me. The suggestions by MikhailM are good. I will add those to the NeoTech threads later today. As for Firefox, I use IE 7.

Hehe... I am rewatching it, too. Can't wait for this. But please, make it have ATTRIBUTES!

Sorry, just had to....

Conversion for races:

Arceans > Narn
Drengin > Drakh
Korx > Centari
Altarians > Mimbari
Drath > Poc'morah
Torians > Drazi
Iconians > SoulCatchers

Dread Lords (1) > Vorlons
Dread Lords (2) > Shadows

United Planets > Alliance
Minor Races > League of Non-Allied Worlds

Soon we'll be speaking of the 'Drazi' spam.

"AHHHHhhh.. Mr. GariBALDI !!!"

The races sound great. I think the Dread Lords should be the Shadows since they are evil, and the Vorlons would more likely hide, instead of allowing themselves to be seen by other races. We can use the list of civilizations that were part of the Non-Aligned Worlds for the Minors. Below is a link to the Wiki of all the Babylon 5 civilizations:
