Modding is a waste of time in V1.1

Modding is a waste of time in V1.1

GC2 is not moddable

So I just spent a couple of hours trying to create a custom race.

I read the woeful modding guide , read a few previous posts, had a look in the Mods databank and then attempted to create a new race.

What a waste of time. There is clearly a heap of stuff hard coded in the software and it is not really modable. The XML file tags are not documented. The XML content is ignored for additional races and for modification to existing races. There are no errors flagged for bad content, there are no working examples, etc..

I challenge anyone to point to a race mod that works (and I don't mean just swapping a image file).

Now this is all fair enough, but Stardock have advertised how modable it is. (I mean they have a section in this forum for it).

But if it doesn't work, they shouldn't push the modding feature.

It's exactly what i do, but AI can stole or trade the prerequisite tech. I don't want my loving race Skunkies (they think they can conquer the galaxy whith love. No, really) have the dark weapons of the Kats !

While I like the idea of Race specific techs, I do not think that they should be flagged for non trade/steal. If you want to trade it, it is your choice. As for tech stealing...Don't loose a planet. If you loose a planet and it has a starbase and/or research building, your secret tech blueprints will be in the computers of the starbase/research building, thus providing the chance they can be stolen.

The point is to have an option, since some mods would for flabvor purposes require techs that are useful only for one side.

Currently, something similar already exists, but it's ethics based.

And since when is there nontradeable-nonstealable technology in B5, humans got the destroyers that had shadow tech and the whitestar is minbari-vorlon tech True there should be a option to make something non-tradeable but B5 certainly isnt a example of something being non-tradeable
