Wormholes and Black Holes

Remember Controlled wormholes?

I remember a tech in Galciv I where you could supposedly build a controlled wormhole to another part of the galaxy and I'm wondering why they are not in the game would this possibly make it too easy to win a game.

Another thing is that if there were black holes in the galaxy possibly near the center they would make the game more intresting you could explore them or ride over them with your ships and a random event would say either you have lost the ship to an unknown gravitational mass or you could be lucky and it would say that the ship was able to stay far enough from the singularity to cause no great harm to your ship and it survives.

they would definatly add some spice to the game because you wouldn't neccarily be able to mark them or find them easily. maybe also an option to turn off black holes for beginners.

I guess i'm all alone on this one right I thought it might spark some attention.

I think they would be a good "terrain" feature on the map. Here are some things that could be used as "terrain" to affect movement, combat, sensors, and,of course excitement:

-stable wormholes
-black holes (a collapsed star where light does not escape:for those that might not exactly know)
-nebulas
-asteroid belts and oort clouds

What else?

Quasars which are unusual.

Star clusters such as the pleadies would be very intricate.

Thinking Thinking thinking!!

Some info on Quasars

As far as "grand" terrain features in current human knowledge,as a layman, I'd say that's about it.

There could be more but I would assume the goverment or astromers won't tell us.

I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to go exploring a black hole. Once you pass the event horizon, you're doomed
Reply #9 Top
Well you wouldn't explore it but it could affect the nearby parsects?...little squares...in movement and battles. Maybe it could provide a research bonus to nearby planets. Now theres a new take. Negative = slower movement. Positive = research bonus.

That's the idea dthought you could use them as a tactical advantage in war by placing a scout as marker for the black hole. and when the enemy comes to attack your scouts as they usually do at some point and they will get sucked to a crushing death; AI's are like that you know stupid even at the higest levels.

and you wouldn't necssaily be doomed if you acted quickly and or you discover it before you get trapped you could escape that fate.

I would love the ability to create (and block) controlled wormholes. It would be not too bad to implement, but difficult to write an AI routine to utilize them correctly.

Something to think about for 1.2 or 1.3 maybe. possibly the expansion pack.

This might be off topic, but wouldn’t it be cool if stars code go nova (and then maybe become black hole)? Or would that be devastating?

in galciv 1 after 4d phasing there was controlled wormholes, but you never were able to use it to make worm holes or anything

Probably be to much game code alteration to implement but would be amazing and spactaular if they did this. it's a great idea but again too much work.

Possibly the star could explode and a random number of planets are destroyed leving a white dwarf and a few useless planets left.

most black holes occur off of binary stars those which orbit each other and the huge gratational forces tear them both appart causing a massive singularity to form.

I'm wondering why they didn't let you do that?

More "terrain" features would be an excellent idea, probably for the expansion pack

I don't see why this would take a big chunk of time to accomplish unless it requires messing with the code, in which case it is better for an expansion pack idea. to true

this proscess takes thousands of years in real life... the game is supposed to quasi-true time. so unless your game lasted a couple years RT then i wouldnt imagine this happening,

As if Gal Civ cares about real time...

It would be an interesting extra event, although it would have to be carefully controlled to make sure it didn't completely mess you up. On smaller galaxies, loosing an entire star system would probably be fatal until the very late game.

Seem's as if they speed up time anyway.

Invasion's of star systems take years and this goes in weeks.

here's an idea, what if the planets actually orbited the stars?

it's kinda wierd that planets just sit there, even if it's only a special thing for the human home world or something, but it would still be kinda cool. maybe planet's move every one or two weeks, depending on how close to the sun they are and they move in a circle around it. that would open up a series of possibilities for random events like an asteroid hitting a planet and sending it spinning outa the system or something/. Also, maybe if people are dumb enough to send ships to close to a star, that ship gets pulled in and destroyed if it stays within a certain range of the star for a certain period or something

just a thought

I'd love to see nebulae that you could hide ships in! As in make it impossible for ships outside the nebulae to see ships inside the nebulae...then launch surprise invasions on unsuspecting worlds!

STARDOCK you need these ideas no!!

{sorry about the caps just calling attension}
